Dexcom G6 $32.10/Month via NDSS Subsidy (Normally $330/Month) @ AMSL

120

For those of you with Type 1 Diabetes living under a rock, you can now get access to subsidised continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and flash glucose monitoring (Flash GM) products.

Of the available devices on the market it seems the Dexcom G6 is the best value and most advanced. But the FreeStyle Libre 2 is a good alternative.

Why G6?

Dexcom G6 is the latest technology in the Dexcom CGM range. The outstanding accuracy of Dexcom G6 allows you to make treatment decisions with no scanning or calibrations required, which means ZERO fingerpricks and no scanning required!

With Dexcom G6, you can see your glucose levels and where they're heading, with just a glance at your compatible smart device or Receiver. Glucose readings can also be seen by up to 10 of your loved ones through the Dexcom Share feature, for added peace of mind!

Highly recommend the Dexcom G6 over Freestyle Libre.

I really cannot wait until they crack being able to monitor blood glucose monitoring in an affordable smart watch. It will be a game changer for those trying to lose weight.

You'll be able to make real time choices and watch when your glucose level is starting to spike. There was an article a little while ago that said that a number of companies were close. The person writing the report said that it was quite fascinating how her body reacted to food. ie, eating vegetables/salad before protein had a noticable drop in glucose levels..

lol its not a technology issue its a lifesyle social economics issue,

richer people are healthier because they have more comfortable lives

      • Thank you for your insightful reply.

Trump is rich and also a fat (profanity), explain your logic to that.

    • Oooh, thats interesting. Did she she leave a time gap between the veg and the protein?

I paired a Freestyle Libre - Miao Miao - Tic Watch pro. This was about 3 years ago and I wore it for around 18 months. Provided live BGL reads. This taught me how to control my BGL and impacts of foods I ate. After having out of control HBA1C results for years I am now low 6's and have been for a long time now. I have dropped from 5 injections per day to 1 + 1 weekly.

  • Just purchased the trial offer for $32.10

Been using the Libre 2 which has been working well enough for me!

Wished the Dexcom was 14 day wear like the Libre 2 is.

    • If the G6 adhesive is still attached ok you can restart the existing sensor at the 10 day expiry to extend the sensor life, just remember to keep the 4 digit calibration code.

We restart without a code, just means occasional calibration!

        • Yeah I've done the kids G6 this way at times when they've just chucked the code in the bin.
Then again sometimes we find, even with reusing the code, you end up getting readings way out from a blood check and have to do a calibration anyway.

How does this work? Is that a patch on your arm? If you have ndss you eligible to the rebate? Also do you wear 24/7 including taking shower? Don't need to replace battery? Also per month is that something like renting it?

    • +1

Small patch with small little wire strip that gets inserted just under the skin, then you insert the transmitter into the sensor holder.
Which reads the glucose levels in your interstitial fluids. Transmitter sends readings to app on your phone.

NDSS holder is eligible for the discounted cost.

Yes you wear it 24/7 even in the shower until the sensor expires at 10days.

Non replaceable battery, transmitter has about 3 month life until needs replacing.

Not renting, you're purchasing the Dexcom system outright.

  • Type 2 and NDSS member - am I eligible?

    • No. We T2s are not eligible for any subsidies. I bit the bullet just yesterday and subscribed to Freestyle Libre so I won't have to remember to order. At least its free shipping. :-/

      • jeez that's shit

how are people affording $330 then?

  • Not as easy to restart as the G5, but we are getting 3-4 restarts out of these before they fail. Finding them quite accurate, but I wouldn’t be correcting off of them without checking BGLs first, especially if you are after tight control.
