I am about 3 hours into Like a Dragon. I Reckon I've had control of the characters for about 10 minutes maximum in that time. And I've been in at most 3 fights. I'm not even sure id classify it as a game at this point

The older Yakuza games have a much different playstyle. They're more like beat em ups, rather than a turn-based action RPG.

What jjsu said, if you haven't played Y0 yet you should start with that. It's often sub $10 on sale and will be the best $10 you've spent.

This is the trait of the yakuza franchise, people new to the franchise often complain about how the beginning is pretty much all cut scenes.

The main hook about these games is the fantastic stories. and in order to do that, they need to have a sound beginning/set up to get players invested.

However, the start of Like a Dragon is even more cut scene intense because it's introducing so many new things, like characters, location, game play. I too struggled with this game at the beginning, but it starts to open up and gets better from about chapter 5.

Well after 3 hours I dont feel invested I feel frustrated and bored honestly. I feel like 3 hours is more than enough opportunity to give a game to grab me. Too many good games out there to risk slogging through for another 5 hours to get to where the actual game begins.

        • Then this game/fanchise may not be for you.

@gruffjaguar: I agree with above reply, atleast you gave it a chance, true be told, yakuza games are pretty all like this; they are cut scene heavy or most of the time you will also be reading those in-game cutscene, it is part of the charm and definitely not for everybody. I love the franchise but I'll admit sometimes even I find it insufferable with how it drags on and on lol.

try playing with japanese audio and english subtitles, only way to play the yakuza series imo

      • love like a dragon, just recently completed it. Well worth trying the RPG turn based elements really set it apart from the main stream series.

LAD has heaps of side quests and if your not invested in that your really missing out on the crazy stuff. esp the obating all of the phone (a friend) summons .

The dance minigame though is extremely frustrating and the cause of me not platinuming the game!

      • +1

bro i just gave up on it.

      • It's a PITA but the one saving grace is that the AI (profanity) up sometimes, I ended up completing it with a really low score cos the AI shat the bed. 100% completion list baybee :^)

        • Yea that was me with the racing game for Yakuza LAD. AI fd up badly and managed to platinumed after very near rage quit. Though with the dance thing, for the life of me, I couldn't even beat the first challenger so I wasn't planning to spend hours more trying to finish all the dancing quests haha.
