The Good Guys Dishwasher Purchase with Home Gift Card

Has anyone attempted to buy from Goodnguys online using the “home” ultimate gift card?

The dishwasher I’m trying to buy can only be bought online. The gift cards cannot be swapped online via the ultimate GC site and seemingly can’t be used as the site instructs (like a CC).

Anyone have experience with this?

I may just go in store and attempt to purchase it that way, cause online seems impossible at present.

    Some troubleshooting questions:

    • What is the cost of the dishwasher and what is the available balance of your Ultimate Home gift card?

    • Do you have a physical or digital Ultimate Home gift card?

    • What is the expiry date you are using at the checkout?

  • Cost around 1750, home card balance $1000

Physical card but sure stipulates it can be used online, just like a CC would be.

Expiry date is the date stipulated to be used on the ultimate gift card site

      There’s your problem.

You’re trying to charge $1750 onto a Visa card with only $1000 available, so the transaction will decline every time due to insufficient balance.

You have two ways to get around this issue:

      • Go into a TGG store and see whether you can complete the purchase there. This will allow you to use multiple additional Ultimate Home gift cards (e.g. from this deal) to cover the $750 shortfall.

      • Purchase up to 2x TGG gift cards with a total value of $750 and redeem them in conjunction with the $1,000 Ultimate Home gift card online. One way to do this is to purchase up to 2x TGG gift cards at a TGG store using Ultimate Home gift cards from this deal.

I’m a little perplexed, because I think I have only seen physical Ultimate Home (Visa) gift cards with a maximum value of $500 each.

For physical gift cards, that’s correct. (12/2029)

For future reference, for digital gift cards, it’s three years from the issue date.

The one purchased (aqua logo) has value up to $1,000. I actually have a $500 card as well, and was planning to pay the shortfall by CC.

The GG site states that two gift cards can be used per online transaction, but I guess this pertains to cards being by processed through the site as GC’s rather than effective CC transactions.

Off I go the the local store then! The specific machine I’m after can only be purchased online unfortunately… but let’s see how flexible they are on that

When the TGG website talks about up to 2x gift cards can be redeemed in one online transaction, they actually mean 2x TGG gift cards. Ultimate gift cards are not the same as TGG gift cards, as those are processed on the Visa network instead of the network used for TGG gift cards.

TGG should be flexible in-store. If they are not flexible for whatever reason, just purchase $750 worth of TGG gift cards (ensuring you only get a maximum of 2x TGG gift cards), come back home and then redeem the 2x TGG gift cards in conjunction with the $1000 Ultimate Home gift card.

  • There are the old and new home ultimate gift cards - sure it's not the old style, which can't be used online?

The older style are in person only, but they redid it all for the newer ones so you can convert / use on stores (Had a similar situation with a couple I used at jb hifi recently)

    • For the JB purchase did you input the card details as you would a CC transaction or did you swap it for a JB eGift voucher/card? If the former, what name did you use? This seems to be the only information preventing a successful transaction.
