Can anyone suggest an insurer that covers laptops and mobiles under their unspecified contents cover? The bank moved underwriter to Allianz and now I have to specify each item I want to insure and pay $5 per month each =(

This is my understanding as well.
For example, an NRMA Contents policy defines what they cover as "items that you or your family own … that you keep in or around your home" (source).
So that would include a laptop and phone while it's at your house. If you take it away with you (like you would do frequently with a phone), then it's not covered while it's away from your home unless you've specified it as portable contents.
They cover it if house burns down etc. But I am talking about accidental damage cover

I would have thought laptops and mobiles would be covered by the unspecified one as long as it's inside your home.
If you take them out, then you generally need to pay more.
