Bike for Heavy Duty Courier and Food Delivery Work

Hey all

Looking for a push bike that can take a lot of daily kilometers around city and suburbs for work sometimes roads are really bumpy.

Was recommended the Giant Roam 3.

What do you guys reckon? And what shops in Melbourne?

TIA.

You will definitely want an electric bike for courier and food delivery work. Not only takes off the physical effort and helps push through rough terrain but makes a big difference with speed too. Time is money after all. More deliveries, more income.

Have a look around every single delivery person on the streets, they're all electric. Most of them don't even pedal which is illegal in NSW but hey ho.

Most electric bikes are illegal in VIC/Melbourne.

No they aren’t. Just overpowered ones are illegal.

      • I'm fairly certain that's incorrect. Pretty sure VIC rules are similar to NSW ie must pedal, can't operate via a throttle, assistance stops above 25km/h and power limited to 200w.

Anyway, IME for couriers and especially food delivery riders you'll want something without lights or reflectors, as dark as possible and of course you yourself should wear all dark colours and ride in a manner that ignores road rules and especially your own safety.

Giant have always made decent bikes. There's plenty of other brands as well and you can compare specs of that Giant to others that also fall within your budget. You'll obviously need to budget for a rack and if you don't already have them helmet, basic tools to change a tyre, pump, lights etc.

        • You probably don’t even notice most of the legal e bikes. They look virtually the same as analogue bikes and travel at similar speeds.

Most e bikes on sale are legal to use.

Of course it’s pretty easy to get overpowered illegal ones, but you have to want to get one.

          • @Euphemistic: It's also possible to modify many models of legal e-bike to raise the speed at which the assistance cuts out and remove the restrictions on power output.

      • Most electric bikes are illegal in VIC/Melbourne.

        LOL

Pretty much anything from a reputable bike brand, with tyres 35mm or greater width.

  • And what which shops in Melbourne?

    fixed…

  • Not a push bike but consider a ex postie bike for 2k
