Parcel Has Been Stolen, Where to Seek Help?

I ordered a product online. It delivered by DHL. I choose to leave in the letterbox but they put under the door map. As a result parcel has been stolen. The seller don't want to refund as they said I choose to leave in the letterbox. DHL also don't want to accept the claim as they said they deliver to the correct address.

I dispute the charge thru the credit card but unsuccessful.

Not sure what can I do. I don't want to pay as I didn't receive the good.

I dispute the charge thru the credit card but unsuccessful.

You disputed it with your credit card provider even though it's not the sellers fault someone stole your parcel?
Why are you expecting the seller to remedy the theft of a parcel?
Do you not feel it's unfair that you attempted to rip the money from the seller even though it has nothing to do with them?
Please give me your eBay username so I can block you from ever buying from me.

Unfortunately you don't have a leg to stand on. You have a parcel theft issue in your area, the only way to remedy that moving forward (if via DHL) is to have them leave it nominated safe place that inaccessible to the public, install one of those lockable parcel drop-box lockers at your address (One that dyna-bolt into your concrete) and get front facing security cameras to help prevent further thefts. If via Australia Post or StarTrack, use Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address (via post-office).

is to have them leave it nominated safe place that inaccessible to the public

They did, but DHL didn't put it there…

Clearly it's accessible to the public…

          Many have locks. Ours do.

@jv: Ok so how did someone steal it then if it was locked? If it's locked then by definition it's not accessible to the public as it's locked

              @Empharand:

Ok so how did someone steal it then if it was locked?

DHL didn't put it where instructed, they put it under the door map (sic).

              Can't you read ?

" I choose to leave in the letterbox but they put under the door map. As a result parcel has been stolen."

              • @jv: Mate I'm referring to putting it someone inaccessible to the public. We aren't even aware if the letterbox is locked or if the parcel itself was able to be put inside the letterbox, perhaps that's why it wasn't placed in the letterbox?

We aren't even aware if the letterbox is locked

                  Regardless, they didn't follow instructions.

@jv: Okay so we still don't know if the parcel was too big to be placed in the letterbox (eg. through the letter slot) so what then? Do you expect the courier to stand next to the letterbox until someone appears. The Courier would likely revert to the default ATL procedure of default knock/ring door bell and leave it. It's highly unlikely they would take it back to the depot over something like that and their procedure doesn't dictate that they do that anyways.

                    • @Empharand:

                      (eg. through the letter slot)

They have one of those letter boxes where you can deposit a parcel.

@Empharand: Trigger happy. You didn't read the post PROPERLY did you? This is a good life lesson if you'll take it.

I called DHL and they dont want to deal with me, as I am not the seller. I asked the seller to communicate with DHL to lodge the claim. No reply from the seller. So I only can dispute the claim.

Parcel has been stolen, where to seek help?

Have you called the police ?

    • yes report to police and they sent me the report. I submitted as evidence for not receiving the product in the dispute claim.

      • Maybe you can claim on home insurance. Many cover theft.

        • Insurance covers theft from inside the property, not outside of it.

          • -1

@garetz: It was left at the front mat. That is on the property.

  • The seller don't want to refund as they said I choose to leave in the letterbox

Tough luck. As you made the choice…

    • Probably did a google search and found that other post last week which involved Australia Post not following instructions..

I used to have all parcels put in front of garage. Most of drivers did this as I told them to. One time there was this big Big W box worth $150, dropped by the driver. I noticed in camera notification but then distracted for something else then half hour later a lady thief came and stole the box. I could have claimed against Big W as even there was authority to leave, the parcel is left in place where it is seen from the street. I took this as my own mistake then didn't claim anything. After this I told all drivers, if they do not see me in balcony, they do not leave in front of garage anymore, instead put in front of main door, which is less visible from street.

  • Bobby trap a parcel

  • Unfortunately you seem to be the victim of a crime to which the cost was loosing the parcel. Unless the thief and goods are found I don't see how you will recover your money spent.

Next time maybe stick to shopping at bricks and mortar stores or get a parcel locker

Thank you for all your reply. Claiming myself down a bit today, felt overwhelming yesterday. So just want to speak out. Next time possibly just click and collect. It is wedding necklace set for $300. It is packed in A5 size envelop. So didn't expected it will put under door map. Anyway, it is what it is.

    • +3

Where do you live that someone saw/noticed the package and would steal that?

      • +3

        lol

They must have been casing OP's home to notice an A5 envelope placed under the door 'map'

        • Maybe the map was marked with the letter X?

            @elgrande: lol

That's it! Wedding treasure located as per map
