Qantas Bonus Points Credit Card

I am looking for a Qantas Credit Card with sign up bonus points that gives credit for spending at local government, I have a big rates bill coming up and wanted to use that for the required spend in order to earn the bonus points. I've looked around and only Amex seems to allow it but I currently have an amex card, so that is out.

Thank you

  • Citi?

" spend a minimum of $4,000 on eligible Retail Purchases using your new card within 90 days from approval. Excludes Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, interest, fees, refunds, Chargebacks and spend on a Linked Diners Club Card."

I had paid council fees with my Westpac NAB and it counted even though it was mentioned no govt fee etc.

Can you pay by post bill pay without a surcharge? It varies from council to council but some do not add a surcharge for post bill pay payments.

If there’s no surcharge then use post bill pay with PayPal using your Amex. You’ll earn points. Been doing it for years.

Edit - sorry re-read your post. Same principle applies though. Use post bill pay , PayPal and your new credit card linked to your PayPal account. I’ve only seen it not work with HSBC.

    • So if I link the new card and used post bill pay then perhaps the council bill will be counted towards the bonus points required spend? be great if it worked. I will be looking at either ANZ or NAB

      • Should work but definitely make sure you pay post bill pay using your pay pal account with the new Cc linked to that.

        • Thanks!

  • The NAB Qantas Rewards Signature counts Gov spending.

    • I stand corrected, it was NAB for me too!

      • Sorry, I'm confused. Did NAB count it towards your required spend for bonus points despite what it said in the terms and conditions?

        • I'm quite sure it's both. I got my bonus points early this year and from memory it counted payments made to Revenue NSW.

        • I believe Bonus points are awarded for this transaction

  • Use sniip, but will cost a transaction fee - might be roughly the same as the council fee anyway.

Wouldnt let me pay certain billers recently :( Looks like a lot of billers have cottoned onto it.

    • Use beemit bpay

Most wont earn points on rates etc as a 'Government Department'
