    • What makes you want to choose this inverter & smart meter?

      • +1

Fronius is an Austrian company and the build quality is pretty good. They have been in the Aussie solar industry for quite a while. There's also a lot of functionality built-in such as load management (the ability to divert surplus PV power to certain things such as water heaters and electric vehicles).
No idea why my question was negged.. maybe a Fronius hater did it.

        • Ok, thanks. So quality and functionality for an extra $1300.

@Matt does the Goodwe come with a smart meter? If not, how much to add one?

          • @Brashtastic: Hi Brashtastic,

Smart Maters are an additional unit for all inverters. The Goodwe Smart Meter is an additional $300 supplied and installed. Also known as the Goodwe HomeKit.

            Thanks,

            Matt

  • Yeah GoodWe is trash

  • Goodwe no good?

  • If anybody is needing better quality advice to help them buy solar than will be found in here in random comments like "Yeah <insert solar brand here> is trash" I help people buy solar and save more money than my very affordable service costs.

I take no kickbacks from solar companies or anyone else when recommending who to buy from so it's an unbiased recommendation (unlike the 'free advice' websites that give you three recommended installers to get quotes from but those installers pay to get recommended, hence it's a system biased to make money for the 'free advice' website, not to necessarily provide consumers with the best companies for the job. More details on my service here if you're interested https://whichsolar.net.au

  • Hi Matt,

      Thanks,

  • Hi all , I’m living in Doncaster Victoria and my export limit here is 5KW , I’ve installed a 8.5 solar system with 8.5 kw Goodwe inverter . After installation I’ve noticed that my output is limited to 6.1 KW (72%) which means my inverter will never produce more than this . My installer told me if you use more , it will produce more as long as the unused KW does not exceed the limit (5KW) , but it’s bullshit . It’s permanently capped at 6.1, regardless of your consumption . So I paid 2400 AUD more , just for 1KW which is ridiculous!

Has anyone had the same issue / experience !?

    • This is perfectly normal - you can export 5KW to the grid, and if you turn on your oven for example, you can also use an additional 3.5KW at the same time.

Secondly it's winter right now. You aren't going to get the full 8.5KW until the middle of the day in the middle of summer. 6.1KW output in winter is normal.

Can you clarify what your issue is ? Did you expect to be able to export the full 8.5KW to the grid at all times of the year ?

Is there some reason you haven't just asked your installer to explain the above ?

      • This is not what’s happening . The installer capped my total solar output to 6.1 KW. It means if I use 3.5 kw , I only export 2.6. Even if it’s a hot sunny day and my panels can let say produce 8k . I’ve talked to the installer today and he asked me to call the company tomorrow to ask for a smart meter . The current setup is that the inverter and the meter don’t communicate, so the inverter doesn’t know how much you are using to adjust its output .

        • +1

Sorry, I don't really follow what you're saying - you need a smart meter to even install a solar system. You can't export anything without a smart meter…

          https://solarcalculator.com.au/smart-meter-for-solar-power/

so you must surely already have a smart meter ?

Note that your power company does need to configure your smart meter as part of the solar install process. Perhaps your installer missed this step ?
