Cheap Waterproof Digital Camera

Hey all

I'll be heading to La Tomatina (tomato throwing festival) in Spain this year and was looking for a cheap waterproof camera, preferably <$100 if possible.

Have seen the fujifilm xp20 at dick smith for $132.30, which I may resort to if I can't find anything else. Any help would be great!

Cheers

  • I'm sure I saw an ad recently from one or more of the usual online shopping suspects (OO, Topbuy, Shopping Square etc) with a waterproof P&S for under $80, try those sorts of places for EOFY sales!

  • +2

Coles have a Kodak Sports camera for $50. It's at the service desk and not advertised. Here's specs about it http://store.kodak.com/store/ekconsus/en_US/pd/SPORT_Camera_… I bought one and used it and can confirm it's a nice little camera and certainly cheap.

    • Nice, the red will be great tomato-camouflage too! :)

    • Any Coles in particular? Looking at getting one for the Melbourne Tough Mudder for January next year, because I can't afford a GoPro ;)

    • Could you confirm that they have that camera for sale please?

    • Dude i went to coles n it was $79!!!!! …. And PINK!!!! Its definately the same camera.

Buzymum20, wen did u buy it n do u have teceipt u can scan… wanna shove it in coles' face n demand my 50buk camera in RED just like pic on box!

      • I got it in Geelong, Victoria. I found out about it on Facebook from the P&O websites as people there were getting it. I got it about 3 months ago. I'll see if I can find the receipt. Yes the colour of my camera was pink not red, but otherwise the same.

  • Thanks guys!

  • I want to sell my used Olympus 725 SW, under water 3m
    Perfect for snowy season :-)
Comes with USB cable, charger, 1gb memory
Price $50, let me know if you interested

  • I spotted some vivitar at BigW today at under $100

  • Perhaps use a good camera with one of these? I know a few people that have them without failure….yet, but you may need desiccant inside to prevent fogging

    • To look like a tool or not to look like a tool… DSLRs were never meant to be submerged underwater, $20 bag or no $20 bag.

      • Should be ok to protect your camera from a few mistimed roma tomatoes at La Tomatina?

  • Im actually curious as to how gd a a pic it would take! Haha

    who's selling their underwater camera?

    • Me me me :-D
      Check your inbox ;-)

  • I'm in the market for one, and went to three Coles but they know nothing about them so I suspect the sale is over (whether it was $50 or $80, I didn't get that far in the investigation).

I went to Target who have a 5MP waterproof camera (brand = "base") advertised in this week's catalogue as $49 (to be $89 when offer ends) and bought that instead. It's no good for above-water photography though - I am mainly after a splashproof rather than waterproof - and the photos I took in the yard today are horrendously pixelated. The sensor is awful and this camera ought to be avoided.

  • Saw one in Coles today - they're $79 now.

  • Before you make the plunge, read some reviews and take suggestions from the forum. Don't aim too low when choosing a camera. I've never heard anyone complaining that the camera they bought is too good.
Don't rule out used and refurbished cameras from dealers and manufacturers.
