Why don't you install the latest iOS ?

    • Was about to but due to the reason the phone will run incredibly slow from each update hence that's why never updated it,was informed as well from technicians and own experience from other apple devices

      • my iphone 7 still runs fine on the latest…

The update might patch some security things, and lessoning the chance of Israel, the US, or China one day taking advantage of your phone and personal info. The condition of your battery might give you some clues to how your phone will perform. Go to Settings > Battery. Tap Battery Health. It looks like Apple only charges $79 for a new genuine battery.

How you do it is press SHIFT+update in iTunes and select the required .ipsw file you download on your computer separately to install that specific version.

However, Apple limits which back versions of iOS are still signed and able to be installed for security purposes. You're best off updating to the latest compatible with your iPhone.

    • Cheers mate, any chance if I took it to Apple store a staff would help me out with this as I'm not really a computer tecchie?

They would certainly help you update the iPhone to latest version.

They will not help you update to specific earlier unsupported version.

Go to Settings > General > Software Update on the iPhone and it do it over the air without need for a computer.

You cannot install an older version of IOS once Apple stops signing it. The Apple store will not be able to do it for you. Currently Apple is only signing 15.6 and that is the only version you can install.

    • Good to know, it's not jail broken and don't have plans to do so, really concerned over the debate that it does/not slow apple devicesover each update
