Mirror in bathroom in newish townhouse rusting - Covered by builders warranty?

I live in a townhouse that I bought a few years ago. It was brand new. I just noticed that the mirror in the main bathroom is starting to rust. Would this be something that would be covered under the builders warranty? It obviously wasn't sealed properly and moisture got in behind it. Any advice would be appreciated.

please tell me you and @GourmetFoodie used the same builder

  • I seriously doubt it.

  • Highly unlikely.

  • Generally there should be 2 years warranty, but it may differ depending on the state you live in.

  • How long is 'a few years ago'?

  • Three years

  • moisture got in behind it. Any advice would be appreciated.

    sounds like a ventilation problem…

  • It's probably a cheap mirror. Unfortunately you would have no way of knowing until the builder has moved on. They specifically mention being copper-free when they are rust resistant

      Copper doesn't rust, iron does.

Something similar happened to the mirrors at my partners house before we moved. There was rust starting at the bottom.

It was replaced free of charge and i’m sure my partner went to the builder about it.. The house probably was 3 years old at the time also.

  • Who was your builder and are they bankrupt yet?

  • I don’t think it would be ventilation, I have a working exhaust fan and it doesn’t stay damp in there. The area that is rusting is just over my sink and I am sure that water would splash up there while using the sink. No other area is affected.
