Flip Phone with Wi-Fi Calling for The Elderly

Hi Guys, my 91yo mum drowned her Nokia 2720 flip phone and I can't get another one.

Also I have moved her carrier from Vodafone (which I believe is the only carrier that supports Wi-Fi calling on the Nokia 2720) to Tangerine (which is Telstra). Does anyone know of a simple mobile , preferably flip or at least push button that has Wi-Fi calling capability with Telstra. The issue is she lives in a retirement village and the mobile signal will not penetrate the thick concrete walls. I have looked into a KISA phone but I would prefer a Flip phone if they exist?

Thanks

Mike

    @tmike
    I happen to have an unopened, brand new Nokia 2720 in the box.
    I'll DM you the details

  • $100 dollars is not the issue - I have been through 3 flip phones to try and solve the problem including a Telstra flip 3 which I had to get unlocked only to find out afterwards it doesn't do Wifi Calling. I have read that the Nokia 2720 only does WiFi calling with Vodafone service so I was looking for one with Telstra. some say it is the phone not the carrier that determines WiFi calling so if there is someone much more knowledgeable out there I would love to know the facts?

    Tangerine doesn’t support VoWIFI - period. No phone will achieve what you’re trying to achieve without moving to a carrier that supports VoWIFI.

    VoWIFI is both phone and carrier dependant. The carrier needs to support it, and the phone needs to support it.

    I’d really suggest taking the 2720 offered to you above and moving back to Vodafone. As someone else has pointed out you’re better off with a phone your mum is already comfortable with vs. trying to teach her how to use a completely different phone.

    Source: I’m an aged care worker who also does 2 days a week ferrying about clients homes teaching them (or rescuing them from) new technology.

    • Do any of the Vodafone resellers support VoWiFi e.g., C Mobile.
      I spend my life rescuing my mum from her devices and technology - hence why I have not let a smart phone anywhere near her - I have enough issues with TV, Foxtel, Amazon Echoes etc - not to mention the normal "land" line phone which is now via NBN and she never understands why all her communication goes off when the NBN service is down!!!!

      • Some do! Not my list but here’s a pretty exhaustive rundown from whirlpool… [link]

        You might be surprised what your mum is capable of! But for sanity’s sake, I’d stick to what she knows. Why make your life harder?
