I think ebay takes around 12%. So you make around $124 minus whatever shipping costs. Doesn't seem worth it for such a high value item with the risk of being scammed selling it on ebay.
Better to not assume. Plenty of free listings and Scalpers will have a business account, fees are around 7%.

You are right. They actually sell for slightly more, but $1,100 was pretty close.
Using the research tool provided by eBay (Terapeak) we can see that over the last 4 weeks 110 were sold at an average price of $1,122.30 + an average postage cost of $22.52 so $1,144.82 all up on average.

That's for the Horizon bundle only. Released 2 months ago so not a lot of stock available yet. There's only ~30 listings left for it on eBay now vs. ~240 for the regular disc edition console.
Being able to sell one for close $1,100 seems very realistic especially when you look at the data for the regular disc edition console and see that even that is fetching $1,056 on average.
There's definitely still an easy opportunity for a quick profit for the scalpers.

This is the first console generation capable of 4k so it's a pretty big deal. Ps3 and ps4 were only fullhd

Sony and Microsoft make very little money on the consoles and usually sell at a loss during the early cycle of the consoles life.
The royalties they receive from the software/games, subscription services, and sales from first party games are where the $$$$ is.
Definitely worth calling around JB stores, it only took me a week of looking around to secure stock.
Who is ‘they’ in your example - Sony/Microsoft and whichever retail you buy from don’t make any extra money if the item is in high demand/low supply - this isn’t the diamond market.
In fact in the struggle for domination of the console market I’d say they’d love to have many millions more consoles ready to go
