Latitude 28° Mastercard - Complimentary Travel Insurance with AIG

Latitude 28° Global Platinum Mastercard: Complimentary International and Domestic Travel Insurance

This has always been a great card to use for overseas travel. Even better that it offered complimentary travel insurance for a period as the world started opening up. The insurance is under AIG Australia Limited.

Has anyone had success or could share their experience with actually making claims against the travel insurance?

I submitted a claim almost a month ago regarding delayed luggage and they still haven't given me any useful response except apologising for the wait and promising to get back to me as soon as they have reviewed the claim. Calling the number doesn't get anywhere because the agent on the phone just says the person is still looking into it.

It's the first time I've used "complimentary" travel insurance so a bit disheartened.

Thanks!

  • I had good experience with Anz via Nab card, received full refund in two weeks .

  • Nice 👍😁

Edit: bookmarked hopefully reminder in the near future lol

When they reintroduced it after covid the terms seemed quite strict and the coverage poor compared to other cards such as Amex or ANZ. I would definitely select a different card for my travel insurance if I was planning using it.

I got some flights with this insurance but I intend on buying regular travel insurance just to cover all bases.

  • I've recently noticed my Bankwest Platinum card seems to have removed the need to purchase the travel tickets through them. At least I couldn't find it prominently on the insurance details, like it usually is.

  • @LittleMiss Did this ever get resolved?

I also put in a delayed baggage claim in the middle of July and have yet to have any response despite my request for information.

I note that the insurer AIG is a signatory to the General Insurance Code of Practice and under that code is meant to provide an update on a claim every 20 business days and resolve the claim within 4 months.

It looks like they are playing the long game for a pretty straightforward claim.

  • Just an update to my claim.

Two days before the end of the four-month period in which AIG is meant to resolve the claim I received a request for some additional information. This is despite providing everything that was requested when initially submitting the claim.

It appears to be a case of the 28° Mastercard insurer, AIG Australia Limited, just kicking the can further down the road for a simple claim.

Last update for those that may go through making a similar claim.

Claim lodged on 24/07/22 and proceeds received 05/12/22.

Claim settled for $1400 (2 people $700 each).

The lack of communication and the time AIG took to settle a straightforward baggage claim were disappointing.

Hi Jaitch, thanks for all the updates - I'm sorry I missed them.

Yes my claim eventually got resolved after about 8 weeks. This is considerably longer than previous claims I've made with other insurance eg. Medibank Private which would normally be confirmed in about 1-2 weeks. Maybe I've been lucky.

I wonder if it's to do with a huge number of claims needing to be settled due to the an incremental amount of delayed flights and baggage around the world. Agree with the lack of communication, I ended up sending an email a couple times a week and calling and demanding to speak to the person looking after my case.

Ultimately happy with the compensation though for all the inconveniences - also 2x $700 = $1400
