Acer Cashback Problems - anyone else?

Purchased a laptop from JB HiFi end of August with $199 cashback on offer. Completed online form and sent off paperwork by express post a week or so later (definitely before due date). Contacted Acer on 14th September asking how long it would take and received a reply saying they don't see any reason why our claim wouldn't be processed within the next 2 weeks and that we should check again in 2 weeks.

Well I just checked tonight and it says Declined due to documents not being received in time! Has anyone else had this happen?

  • acer is a bitch of a company

  • Yeah they do that to everyone. There's a big thread about this exact thing on whirlpool.net.

I made a complaint to Office of Fair Trading (QLD). And what do you know - as soon as the nice lady from OoFT rang them, my documents miraculously appeared at Acer. My claim status immediately changed from Declined (documents not received) to Processing (due in a few weeks).

Lodge a complaint with your local state authority, tell them that this is a common theme with Acer, show them the thread on Whirlpool, and see if they can help you out.

    • Two weeks back i bought a laptop with $149 cash back and send all the required documents to the address given there. And now as i enter the cash back claim site with my cash back claim no it says the documents are still pendings, i dont know whether i was cheated or not. i have got all the photocopies of the documents still with me could you kindly tell me how should i process further.

      • I think the main trick is to keep contacting them. Send them emails enquiring about your cashback or ring them to check. It's great that you kept photocopies - you will probably need them (but hopefully you won't).

  • Thanks for your replies. It's all sorted now (hopefully). My husband first rang Aus Post and they gave him a date that the documents were delivered (luckily we had an express post ref number) - then he rang acer.

The twit at acer told him that the declined message just means that the documents haven't made their way to the dept where they process the claims. My husband didn't accept this and told him that he would fax the documents to him and he expected a receipt.

We now have an emailed receipt and an ETA of 11th December (!!) for the cheque. Fingers crossed.

  • My estimated date was a month or so again - still processing…

    • I bought a laptop in June with a cashback and it took them till Ocober to send out payment. Very Very Slow in processing payments……

  • Yeh it's slow but i did eventually get it.

  • I got mine too.

  • hey, sorry if my question is not related. can anyone explain how I can claim GST if I buy a laptop here and bring it to overseas?

    cheers

      1. You'd have to get a tax invoice with your name and address printed on it (let the shop know that you want a tax invoice to claim GST)
      2. You'll have to bring your laptop with you overseas.
      3. Claim back for GST at the airport.
  • A little off topic but an example of an offer being done right. —- After logging claim on website then mailing in documentation I got the following from Canon…..

  • I bought an Olympus camera late last year and they creditted my Paypal account within 24 hours of receving the material, a very efficient way to do things - hats off to Olympus as well.

  • Excellent!
