Qantas American Express Ultimate Card (100,000 Bonus Qantas Points) - Good Deal?

Hi, I would like to get an AE card.

Looking at this deal and feel like this is a good one:

https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/qantas-ultimate-a…

It seem like 100,000 point is great with a lot of other benefits.
May I know what are the cons of having this card when $450 travel credit can offset the $450 annual fee?

Travel credit can only be used through the amex booking portal - looked to be the same flights/prices as on Qantas's own website though

Also be aware that's only 75k points after 3k spend; the other 25k is a year later

I did enjoy the 4x lounge passes though

Not worth the $450 annual fee
Wait till it goes on special for half or even free annual fee

Theres plenty of better offers out there just need to look at the financial deals

Don't get qantas exclusive card, the points are super hard to redeem for business class seat. Get the amex explorer or any other card that gives you the flexibility to transfer it to other rewards program.

    • I see. Do you mean amex explorer's AMEX point is better than Qantas point?

Does AMEX point worth more in dollar terms?

Sorry if these are odd questions. Keen to learn.

      Thanks.

Amex points is better than Qantas because it gives you the flexibility to convert to other rewards program like Virgin, Emirates, Singapore etc…

When you need to use the points, you can now search for available seats across multiple airlines whereas Qantas is pretty much locked to Qantas (and their partners).

        https://www.americanexpress.com/en-au/rewards/membership-rew…

You can see there are 9 rewards programs that you can transfer to.

Another consideration is Amex points can be use to pay off the debt on the card, something you can't do on Qantas card. You can sells Qantas points for cash as some people do but that's against their policy and if get caught, you might forfeited the points.

        • appreciate that! :)

        • That's a little harsh on use of QF points on being locked to qantas and their partners. The list of Oneworld partners is pretty extensive!

  • I am also on the hunt for a great deal. They had some truly amazing offers last year but I've needed to wait out the 18 months during those times. There are websites that used to show the historical bonus point offers (for all cards) but I can't recall which one it was - if anyone can recall?? I thought it was Point Hacks but don't see it there.

  • I signed up for both this and the ANZ black to get the bonus signup points and just got them credited to my account in the past week. Now I must decide if I should keep either or none. Like the idea of earning 1-1.25 points uncapped but $400+ for annual membership is still hefty coming from the platinum edge.

If I had to keep one, which one is better?

From my experience checking the travel credit utility, I could only book the very first flight in the morning i.e ~6am (From/to SYD). Its kinda false advertising as I probably won't end up using the credit
