Decently priced mobile plan that uses the Telstra network.

Looking at the current Virgin Offer of a Samsung Galaxy S2 for $5 a month on a $29 a month plan with the first 5 months free and wondered if anyone knew of a similar deal which uses the telstra network? I would go with Virgin but Telstras coverage is a bit better where I live.

Doesn't have to include the phone and it can be prepaid or plan as long as its < $30 month for at least $300 worth of calls.

  • I would love to know of a similar deal.

I'm currently on telstra prepaid $30 a month gets me $250 odd of credit - more than enough, 400mb data - not really enough, but managable and free calls after 6pm - who cares

I want a new phone… would be great if someone had some suggestions.

    • hope you know you can use your initial $30 credit to buy a browsing pack.

      • Yep yep, 700mb each month:) Wish you could just auto buy or something.

For the op, you could also get $20 + $10 talk plus packs… that would give you the equivalent of $300 in call value on Virgin… still doesn't get around buying the handset outright though…

Over 24 months, you'd still spend $120 on the handset on virgin… so if you are going to buy through Kogan or something for the handset, u r really only spending $3xx for the extra coverage over 2 years… with the flexibility of no contract… all depends on what you want.

To me having a phone means being able to receive calls, and I can only do that on telstra… so I have to put up with the rest of the crap.

  • Good luck getting that sort of data on a cheap Telstra plan.

  • Are the $20 + $10 talk packs just a prepaid recharge or some kind of special deal? The only deal I could find for Telstra was the woolworths one with starter packs for $10 but it has expired. Data doesn't really worry me but getting decent recption does.

    • Assuming you are going to go on the Prepaid cap encore, what you get everytime you recharge with $30 is:

      $220 "bonus" credit
      400mb Data
$30 real credit - this is what you can use to do anything pretty much, including buying a plus pack.

Have a look at this link to see what you can do with the plus packs.

The $30 starter packs are a different kettle of fish… you can't really use them for a recharge - except for the first time you port ofcourse
