Plex server issue?

Does anyone have an issue with their Plex media server not picking up your PC's video file out of a sudden? I have a lifetime pass. It just kept asking me to install the plex media server despite multiple installations.

Any suggestion on how to fix it? Ran out of idea now….

Usually a network/firewall issue when you can't see your library
Both server and player logged into the same account?
More info on your setup might help with a relevant reply though.

  • Install Jellyfin? (teehee)

    • If its a new installation its better to start Jellyfin now, converting users from Plex to Jellyfin is too much work, especially if their TV etc doesn't support Jellyfin.

Move the server to Unraid - no issues on there hosting and streaming 😊

  • Thanks guys, but looks like complete uninstallation and reinstallation of app and server did fix the problem.. Still it's weird it just happened like that out of nowhere.

  • Merged from Plex Media Server Not Working

    Hi all,

Never had issues with Plex until a couple of weeks ago. The app just will not find my PC. It will keep asking me to install the Plex media server, which I did, but still no luck. Used to be my favorite streaming app of all time, and why now suddenly so buggy? How to fix it?

The only I have found to work is to clean uninstall the Plex app & media server and install it again every time I need to get it to work.

    Please help. Thanks!

    • Hi there,

Has your IP address on your PC changed? Usually that's my biggest issue with helping my family out with their jellyfin server

      Weird plex, but ok.

    • Have you tried the plex web site user forums instead of the forums on the OZ BARGAIN web site?

      • No one asnwered there

Could be a couple of issues, PLEX had a hack recently where passwords were stolen, so they forced every device to log out (so it might just be a case of reboot PLEX server, then reboot PLEX clients, log out on device, then log back in with new password)

The other thing is that PLEX works via IP address on a home network, if you reboot the PLEX server PC and you are assigned a new IP address from your DHCP device it can stuff up your plex clients (which cache the IP address) :/

Solution is to make sure the IP address doesn't change on the PLEX server PC, can be done by either DHCP config (to assign a set IP address to the MAC address of your PLEX server PC) or via the PLEX server PC Network Config panel (where you set the IP address and DNS manually)

Once IP is fixed, you will have to log out of each client and back in :/

Spot on, it will be this.

Strange how OP didn't see the multiple emails, and it's plastered all over Plex' support forums and reddit, but chose to ask here.

      • How do you set a fixed IP?

        • can be done by either DHCP config (to assign a set IP address to the MAC address of your PLEX server PC) or via the PLEX server PC Network Config panel

Hard to be specific when zero info about your setup is shared ;)

          • @7ekn00: I just set IPV4 using google DNS. How to change from the Plex side.

What would you like to know about my setup?
