Surprised I didn't have these on my account. Probably do on steam. Thanks

GoG recently gave away the version of Daggerfall in a new engine and packaged with something like 100 modernization mods chosen by GamerZakh (who is a fairly small but awesome youtuber who does reviews and guides to older strategy games).

This reminds me of Eye Of The Beholder, the best RPG game I have ever played, yongs ago.

    • Remember they had that cash prize for the first person to find all the secret items?

“From February till October 1991, SSI started up a contest "Beholder Bonus", which required players to find a bonus feature (easter egg) in each level of the game, indicated by an onscreen message. The first 50 PC players and 50 Amiga players to discover all 12 features would win $100 worth of prizes.”

My naïve primary school self thought it was a single prize and I remember it as much more money for some reason.

My brother and I won a Dungeons and Dragons bag full of old school D&D games like Curse of the Azure Bonds and that one where you fly around on dragons for being one of the first to complete Eye of the Beholder. Good memories!

@trainingwheelz: You and your brother were one of the winners of that Beholder Bonus contest?! (or was it for a different competition?)

Do you recall the specific games that came in your prize bag, apart from Curse of the Azure Bonds ? :)

And I'm taking an educated guess here, the 'fly around on dragons' game you are describing might be … DragonStrike ?

            • +1

@slipkord: Yes, that's it - Dragonstrike! I think the others were Pool of Radiance and Hillsfar, but it's been so long it's hard to remember. I reckon my brother may still have the bag lying around somewhere. It was black with red writing I think.

          • @trainingwheelz: How old were you? I was maybe 12 then and couldn’t get all the level bonuses. I did finish it, but not sure if that was later.

              @WhyAmICommenting: 1991 I was in grade 11 so I was either 15 or 16.
I still remember the cheat code for Doom that you typed into the console for god mode….spispopd - weird how some things stick in your memory.

I used to play a lot of old school games like Police Quest, Tapper, The Ancient Art of War and Karateka on the old Apple IIe computer.

If you ever get the urge to replay EotB 1 and/or 2 using DOSBox, there's a pretty neat auto-mapper utility called The All-Seeing Eye (ASE for short) that is free to download and use. Website link

The All-Seeing Eye is an automapper for the English MS-DOS-versions of the first two EOB games, meant to be used with DOSBox on a Windows PC. It shows a real-time updated dungeon map on a separate window. The map is revealed as you explore. If you have a second display, you can play the game fullscreen and have the map window on the second display.

This is a good place to start if you want to improve the graphics of the ancient Daggerfall: https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/5

What I most wish for is an official engine level remaster of Morrowind. There is OpenMW but it doesn't support the script extender. The original engine doesn't handle world complexity adding mods very well, with massive FPS drops.

    • The chances of getting an official remaster of Morrowind does seem slim for the moment, from what I recall reading online, e.g. Bethesda currently focused on Starfield, then Elder Scrolls 6, then Fallout 5 after that (which is a few years away).

Anyone know a way to view my Microsoft/Xbox games library on browser without using their app?

  • What is the difference in these and the F2P versions on Steam (besides which store they come from)?

Bethesda's own site links directly to the Steam links.

  • Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was also quietly released on the Microsoft Store on the same day as The Elder Scrolls: Arena, and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall … so I have updated the deal post's details accordingly.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory – Official Dedicated Server Update (Sep 7th, 2022

We’re excited to announce that we’ve deployed official dedicated servers for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Though the community has hosted – and continues to host – servers with a variety of mods and custom maps that we highly recommend, we also understand that many players are looking for a more nostalgic experience.

So, starting now, you’ll be able to find official servers running the vanilla Enemy Territory Campaign ruleset, with all six original maps and no mods! We’ve set up servers across multiple territories to better ensure players from around the world can play with relatively low ping.

Here are the specific notes regarding this update:

    • Official servers will be named: “id Software Official Vanilla Server – (Region)”
    • Four official servers deployed.
    • One official server per region.
    • Regions supported include:
    • US: Texas
    • EU: Netherlands
    • AU: Canberra
    • UK: London

All official servers run the “Campaign” game mode by default. Official servers maintain the following settings:

    • Server MOTD: Official & Vanilla Servers hosted by id Software. Enjoy! These servers are unmoderated. For issues, help.bethesda.net
    • Game Type: Campaign
    • Maximum Players: 16 (8v8)
    • Friendly Fire: Yes
    • Punkbuster: No
    • Anti-Lag: Yes
    • Max Lives: Off
    • Weapon Restriction: Off

We’re also pleased to announce the game’s release on the Microsoft Store, complete with dedicated server support as well. So, if you’re a vet looking to relive launch day or a newcomer curious what the fuss is all about, it’s a good day to venture into Enemy Territory.
