What Is The Best Brand for Men's Socks?

Hi all,

I'm on the hunt for the best pair of mens socks. I'm sick of sorting socks and want to have all of the same to save doing this.

I want to get 10 pairs of calf length work socks, preferably 5 in navy and 5 in black, and 10 pairs of black ankle socks.

I've tried a few different pairs but wanted to get the consensus on the best brands to do this with.

I'm in Brisbane, so ideally they'd be breathable more so than warm, but I'm open to options of what other people have used.

I've tried some bamboo socks from Amazon that were pretty good but weird sizing, some cheaper plain cotton ones from Amazon that haven't held up, and some dickies ones from a post here that are good quality but ugly, as well as a lot of Bonds products who's quality has drastically dropped lately.

Does ozbargain have a favourite sock?

    Plenty to choose from here.
Need to spend a bit to get free delivery though - but CR often have deals running, plus discounts

  • All cheap ones from kmart/big W I found them near garbage they would last me very short time before getting a hole in them.

I'd suggest getting a decent pair of socks ones that will last a while

I can comfortably say these like socks are pretty good, and especially good for winter.

way way far more superior than cheap kmart/big W ones.

    • what i find worse about the Kmart/Big W ones, is how hot your feet get. Also, they tend to feel like you're walking on rollerskates sometimes!

There was this post on Reddit a while back.

As you are looking to buy in a small bulk quantity some of those might work out well.

    • Too many choicessss

  • I'm also chasing bulk black ankle socks

stopped using happy socks for the same reason and bought their bulk drimotions but they've discontinued the colour :'(

Darn Tough have buy 6 for the price of 5 on Amazon which is great for accumulating

    • +1 for Darn Tough

    • their = Kathmandu

    • Most of the ones i'm seeing seem to be $40 a pair, is that right?

      • yeah, unfortunately.

the last time i bought the hiking ones were ~160 for 6 which felt quite cheap for merino + the lifetime guarantee.

also less painful with amazon cashbacks

  • Van Heusen ones have treated me very well over a long period. Only now getting holey after about 8 years.

  • For comfort & durability Smartwool socks have always served me well. They're pricey at RRP but IMHO worth it.

That being said I've always found Uniqlo socks a good balance of quality & cost. Their ankle socks fit well and seem to last a good while and I've had a few pairs of their dress socks for years and they're holding up well. The other big plus is that they're nearly always in stock and 3 for about $15 so easy to replace as needed.

I recently picked up a bunch of bamboo ones from Kmart and so far they're fantastic. Much cheaper than the same material quality from other brands too.

  • I did the same with Oakley socks, they had a sale so I bought a few packs of the same socks. I always find oakley to be very good quality

I find that the sock kiosks in random shopping centres are usually pretty good quality for their all cotton socks, I've got 6 year old pairs that are still intact. Pre-inflation price $10 for 3 pairs.

  • holeproof explorers - for work socks. think I have a couple of pairs that are probably 10 years old (though noticeably thinner than the rest). last a while and can buy a bunch of black or navy and not have to worry about pairing them up.

  • Amazon have Dickies socks and they are pretty good.

Tradie bamboo socks are also good.

  • Kmart is good for a year, then buy new ones.
