Freebies from The Star (formerly known as Star City..)

Who else have been getting those freebies from The Star since it rebranded itself?

Last time it was the Jamie Oliver Tefal stuff and the current promotion is a free Dick Smith's 15.5" TV…

(I haven't lost that much, probably still in the 3 figures region)

  • how much do you have to lose there?

    • in the k's. these gift offers make me angry every time i see them in the mail. i thought they were supposed to ban people from staying too long. nearly 24 straight hours in the casino and the "i was winning" excuse.

    • Actually I've just worked it out, lost around $650 all up. Assuming it's $100 for the TV (coincidentally enough, the TV in the kitchen had finally kicked the bucket!) so it's not entirely useless and the Tefal fry pans are around $150…well that offset it to $400.

Does it sting? Yes but I did have a great time spending many hours at the table relaxing.

      • +2

I don't find gambling relaxing at all! I get so stressed and guilty when I lose :(

  • I wonder how do they choose who to receive the freebies? Mum got a Nikon camera and a Navman GPS.

    • Whoa….

I must not be losing errr turnover enough then.

What scares me the most is, last time I saw 3 generations of the same family rocked up collecting their wares. It's not just one family either but quite a few of them, makes you wonder how widespread is gambling in the community.

  • Hmm…another round of freebies. This time it's an useless Cadbury hot chocolate maker.

The value of the stuff is getting cheaper, that's for sure.

  • How would The Star know how much you're losing at a table anyway?

    • Cameras, statistics, stealthy ninjas. Presumably similar method to track card counters.

      • That's one hell of a lot of effort to give out some "gifts"
        But then someone said mail?

    • It's up to the dealer to work out your average bet and punch it in there accordingly. Also, every time you change cash for chips, that also get recorded too.
