Problem with Booking through AmEx Travel

Is there any way to change this flight or am I screwed?

Situation:
- $400 Amex Travel credit from Amex Explorer
- 9pm Sunday 21/8/22 I booked a SYD to HKT flight through Amex Travel portal and select Singapore Airlines. 2 legs SYD to SIN and SIN to HKT
- During bookout process on the amex travel portal they display a Singapore Airlines logo for both legs the entire time on every page but upon further inspection if you click into more details it shows (operated by scoot) on the SYD to SIN leg.
- Thought I booked Singapore Airlines for both legs not a Scoot leg 1 and Singapore leg 2.
- Try calling Amex travel immediately but they are only open weekdays during business hours
- Call them on Monday 22/8/22 and they say that Singapore Airlines wont change it since it wasn't on the same day. But I couldn't change it since Amex Travel is closed weekends. Then they say that's the terms and conditions so too bad.
- Call Singapore Airlines directly on Monday 22/8/22 and they say I have to call Amex Travel and they cant do anything.

If I wanted a Scoot flight I would've bought it myself for 1/2 the price but I wanted a Singapore Airlines flight and was willing to pay double (with the amex credit).

So now I'm stuck with effectively a Scoot flight worth $300 (maybe another $80 if you value luggage) but I paid $680 for it through Amex.

Honestly seems like the Amex credit is not worth the hassle of being forced to book through them instead of airlines directly.

Am I screwed here?

Is Amex Travel Portal misleading by not changing the logo to scoot?

I'm just trying a random date from Sydney to Hong Kong.

And I can see that they say 'operated by scoot' for the singspore to hong kong.

    • Yeah but they don't change the logo to the scoot logo.

But that aside, the fact that amex is offline on weekends to be able to call to change is already a massive downside to booking through the airline directly right?

While there are things that can be done better, I think it's quite clear that the second leg is operated by scoot, regardless of the logo. It says it right there.

You can expend more energy to fight this but imo, it's pretty clear.

Yeah amex not being available on weekends is a pita. But that's the service currently. If it's a massive downside for you, then simply use a different service in the future and sell your credit online.

        • The ticket is sold by SIA, operated by Scoot. QANTAS does the same with 'operated by Jetstar".
The fare would have been higher if not. You can't have it both ways.

It shows Singapore Airlines logo is because Singapore airlines code shares the scoot flight and assigns a Singapore airlines flight number for it.

    • When booking through Singapore airlines directly it shows the scoot logo if it uses a Scoot leg. I just assumed that was standard and guess gloss passed it when booking through amex. Down bad because I dont value a singapore airlines 2 hour flight at $600~ when scoot is selling syd to hkt for $300~.

      • I just assumed that was standard

There is your problem. Don't assume, check and double check

Is Amex Travel Portal misleading by not changing the logo to scoot?

No, because if you checked the flight details, it would've clearly said flight operated by Scoot

Ok what about the fact that I could not make a same day change because amex travel don't operate 24/7?

If I booked with the airline directly I could make the same day change no problem.

Honestly seems like the Amex credit is not worth the hassle of being forced to book through them instead of airlines directly.

They're not worth it. Options are limited and as you've found out, changing your booking through Amex is a huge pain in the ass.

  • Never thought I’d say it but I preferred it when amex was offering to let people use travel vouchers value as Harvey norman vouchers during the peak of lockdown. Typically the hotels/flights can be had for cheaper.
