News from StereoNet

Various Hegel stockists are offering customers the opportunity to home trial the Hegel H190 for 7 days - terms and conditions apply. You pay upfront ($5,995 RRP) and arrange a 7-day in-home trial with a participating Hegel dealer's loan unit. You can then return it within seven days for a full refund (it must be returned in original condition, of course). If you're happy with the H190 in your system, you can then order a brand new unit from the dealer and be entitled to $1000 cash-back, bringing the investment down to just $4,995.

Terms & Conditions

The home trial offer is applicable on the Hegel H190 7 days only. It is required to pay the RRP in full to qualify of the loan unit. Once returned within 7 days and in original condition you will be entitled to a full refund. If the unit arrives back damaged and/or additional wear and tear or after the 7 day period, the retailer may charge you a fee (each retailer will have their own policy on what that fee will be), so please confirm with your retailer. • tempting

but i've been eyeing an Auralic "something" for a while..

just need to win some division 2 lotto first…

  • Not enough interconnects and what is there is mostly Toslinks.
Not my area of the market for an "investment" - thanks but it looks nice.

  • What the saying again… if I have to ask, I can't afford it?

    • No, if you don't know what it is/how it works ..then you don't need it

  • $6k for 2-channel 150W amplifier. What price speakers should go with these? Isn't it something like speakers = range from 0.5x price of the amp up to 5x price of the amp?

    • Not necessarily, I have a H590 driving a pair of Kef Ls50 and Magnepan 1.7i. Some speakers scalability and or power requirements are high.

  • Should do my audio engines justice. I'm sure they scale well with amplification of this price

  • Wish my ears were good enough to hear things better…
Do you guys here the differences between various amps?

    • Yes you can.

To be sure, it is one of the more subtle differences, and things like room treatments and speaker placement will have a far greater effect on the sound. But once you've explored those options, an amp upgrade is one of the things that can (not necessarily will) make an audible difference, rather than a price-influenced placebo difference.

      • True. But being able to hear the difference between sample A and sample B doesn't mean that one is better than the other. Just like wine snobs get familiar with a particular taste and label it as "better", so too audiophiles listen for certain aural signatures and call it "better". All they're really doing in both instances is identifying differences…then projecting value onto those differences based on the asking price/status of the items in question. Fashion is the same. It's all just another way to burn cash…decline of Western civilisation and all that.
