Samsung TradeUp return phone 8 months later???

I purchased a Samsung Zflip 3 months ago using the Samsung Tradeup program and was supposed to send in my old Galaxy S10.

At that time they never sent me the return shipping slip or any information on how to return the phone.

Now, this morning I received the following email at least 8 months later. What do you think I should do? They will probably charge my credit card in 7 days?

Whoops! Looks like you recently completed a Samsung Trade-Up order, but we didn’t send you the eParcel label to return your original traded-in device! We apologise for this error.

Thank you for completing your Samsung Trade-Up order and we hope that you're loving your new Samsung Galaxy phone.

Following the steps highlighted below, please return your original device to us within the next 7 days to avoid being charged a Device Non-Return Fee.

It's as easy as:

1 - Transfer your data to your new Galaxy phone.

2 - Unlock and disable all passwords and security features on your original device.

3 - Erase any data by performing a factory reset and remove the SIM and memory card.

4 - Take your original device and the eParcel label into your nearest Australia Post outlet. You will be provided with secure packaging to return the device at no extra cost to you.

    Send in the s10 then?

    • +1

He probably doesn't have it anymore, either sold it for cash or gave it to someone.

      • That's what I was thinking, lol.

Welp, OP gonna get charged in 7 days then. Case closed.

      • +1

My bet they have it, or can get it back.

My interpretation of the post is they are saying can they get away with not posting it back given it's been so long. If they didn't have it, the post would be more like: I don't have the phone anymore - what should I do.

    • Pick it up boys, case closed

What do you think I should do?

Send it in - that's what you agreed to do.

      It should probably read:

I purchased a "Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3" months ago using the Samsung Tradeup program. This morning I received the following email at least 8 months later:

      • you are jenius … uzza

  • +4

You will have to either cough up the phone or the phones value

    /Endthread

  • What do you think I should do?

Trying to read into the motive of OP… as the choice is obvious, but had to post on OzB to ask…

No, OP you can't keep your old phone and keep the tradeup money, because they delayed sending your the eParcel label.

Either send old phone back, or let them charge your credit card.

    Thank you for using OzLifeChoices.

i dont think so. just the value of trade in and $60 admin fee i think thats what people said

      • What people? You're the only one here saying there is a $60 admin fee.

        • that people below. drakesy

          • @CyberMurning: Darling, your comment claiming 'others' was posted 8 hours and 19 mins ago, while the 'first' to advise the $60 fee was 7 hours ago… So it was posted 1 hour and 19 mins after your 'claim'….. Thanks for coming.

            • @JimmyF: duh, i may have seen the same on the other post i linked above…
this thread can be considered as dupe actually. not the first. also probably some comments about the same issue on the original trade up threads, 8 months ago

              • @CyberMurning: No one is talking about some other post you read comments in, we are talking about this post….

  • Really?

    Either
    a) send it in
    b) don't send it in and be penalised the trade in price and admin costs. (Which they have a right to do)

If you don't return the phone, they will charge you the trade in price and admin cost of $60. It happened to me despite the email came through many months later that I was hoping they forgot about it

I gave the phone away a couple of months ago. I'll just respond back the phone was shipped ages ago and if they want the transfer receipt I don't have it anymore as it was almost a year ago.

    • +5

but they didnt give you reply back envelope, how did you sent it..

    • at this rate it'll be 5 years ago…. first it was 3 months, then 8 months, now nearly a 'year' ago…..

      • +1

        'Z flip 3' months ago…..

You are meant to use their label.
They know a label was not supplied.
The label has now been supplied.

Send the phone or accept the charge.

    • You gave away a phone that was meant to be traded (reduce the value of your purchase), obvioulsy thinking due to the time delay you'd get away with it.

You didn't, you made the choice, now wear it.

Why is this even a discussion? You bought the phone at the time knowing you were going to trade in the old phone. When it took them this long to get to you you took a gamble and it didn't pay off. Samsung are still entitled to either the phone or your money. There is no in between. 8 months or no 8 months.

  • I got the same email. Thinking of charging a storage fee. Like $100 per month and send them an invoice

  • At the bottom of the email there a terms and conditions tab. Click on it. Takes you to a contact us page. Why is that? So no terms and conditions

    • yeah tried that too twice as i thought i may clicked the wrong thing.
      so dogggy this company

      • I got lucky. My credit card i used at the time has been cancelled, might just ignore the email

        • what if they put bad credit on your credit rating record file, or send debt collectors?

          • @CyberMurning: As per the conditions they will require me to send the mobile back when i received my new phone. I think 8months is unsatisfactory. What if i travelled overseas for extended periods of time. How would they expect me to protect and store their phone for 8 months? What costs would be involved

          • +1

@CyberMurning: This! I am curious with this. I learned the lesson next time when doing this preorder trade up deals I need to use a one-off use credit card.

The only thing is they will do a preauth for the whole trade in amount first to see if it goes through but will be returned back into the pool before charging it again if you didn't return the phone and that comes after many months later.

            • @burningrage: "The preauth amount is returned back into the pool before charging it again"

Is this a standard practice with all/ most Aus banks?

          • @CyberMurning: They will def employ a debt collector.
Samsung has been known for being quite brutal when it comes to chasing money owed.

        • If the new card is with the same financier and the previously auth or preauth then Mastercard/Visa can still let the charge go through.
I had a refund processed to card that was expired.

  • Got the same email - let's see what happens, was an S9 valued at $40, said to myself at the time that I was happy to eat a $100 fee if it comes to it to get $500 discount from the deal, wasn't expecting it like 8 months later though LOL

  • Same here just got the email today after around 9 months!!! Please let us know here if anyone resolved this without sending the phone in. My note 8 got $60 when i bought the new phone!!

  • I've emailed them and all I can say is these guys are clueless with what's going on.

  • Is there any way to avoid admin fee by sending some different mobile? (I read some where in forum that we could avoid it by sending some old mobile).

    • +1

Hmm worth to try. If they said this isnt the phone then just reply okay, please charge me the trade in (but not $60)

  • now they ask why we dont have the phone anymore…

  • Today, they just charged old phone volume fee, didn't charged admin fee.
