As long as the person has reviews it shouldnt be an issue. I wouldn't go with someone who doesn't have reviews

Only experience I had with AirTasker was putting a 20 minute job (delivering something) up. I got quotes of $80+ .
Including travel to and from you, $80 is pretty reasonable yeah? 60 minutes travel, 20 minutes work, 5 minutes to read your ad, 5 minutes to get a verbal brief from you in person, that's 90 minutes work. Plus what are the chances they can line up another job right after all that, or what if the job isn't done 20 minutes after arriving to your place, you'd be unhappy if they just left after 20 minutes. What kind of price were you expecting?

I live in a densely packed area, the assumption of price was predicated on them not having to take an hour to GET to the location. If that were the case, sure, that's reasonable given the total time involved.
If it takes them an hour to GET to you, then an hour to GET back, then that's two hours travel time.
Maybe try learning a new language so you can more easily find some illegal or slave labour, considering your expectations don't currently match fair market rate.
I've seen both ends of the spectrum. People with no qualifications bidding for work where i specifically said I want someone experienced, and also getting a qualified tradie at half the price of what i was quoted from a couple of different local companies. So I will certainly use it as an option going forward.
It's exactly the same people who have multiple profiles on HiPages, ServiceSeeking, and Airtasker. Just use some judgement and look at reviews.
People want outrageous prices (to me at least) for menial tasks.

I hired a mechanic to fix my car. He was good and very cheap.
But I can't find anyone who'll do a legit pink slip. The bidders would only do it online….yeah, nah.
Worth it imo. Post as once off, if goood rehire directly.
Get somone with reviews.
