I am not a wristwatch enthusiast and love my apple watch but my father-in-law loves watches and we wanted to gift him one as a return gift [he is visiting Syd from Nepal].
I don't have a huge budget for this gift, and looking for the best recommendation under the 300-400$ range.

As something different, you could keep a look out for the Fossil Hybrid HR
I have one and am very happy with it
Battery lasts over a week and most don't know it's a smartwatch until they look at it
Look at the Presage range from Seiko. I have one and i absolutely love it.
I'm also in the market for a Seiko Presage, but I don't think you can reliably get one for under $400…
i am personally waiting for another deal for the pagani design speedy - watch snobs will poo poo homage (and or absoloute copies) but i think for the asking price its a nice novelty that has decent parts inside for the asking price.
Orient is probably a good option to consider at that budget.
