Harvey Norman is generally frowned upon here…

Agree. I still refuse to buy anything from Gerry because 34 yrs ago when I was 5, Gerry sold me caveman ugalympics on my 086 and it never worked. That was 50 bucks for a crappy game on 5 and 1/2 floppy that didn't even work and he refused to refund me - kept a 5yo's life savings!

You needed a weird uncle who had access to early BBS and can give you a huge stack of pirated floppy disk games.

    I would get the strix.

Not sure what the go with Harvey Norman on here, but I purchased my 2021 Asus TUF A17 FA706QM 5800/3060 laptop from HN.

It's been fine and haven't had an issue.

      Ok

The graphics card performances are very similar between the two, and given you're using it for mobile gaming I would get the newer Ryzen 7 model than the older Ryzen 9.
However I would also say Harvey Norman is a terrible company run by criminals, so I would suggest looking for the same laptop elsewhere.

The A15 is IPS, which is good, but it's only 1080p, which is bad. Even if you plan on running games in 1080p it's still worth having a higher res display because many games these days will allow full resolution overlays even if the game itself is running a lower resolution, and that makes a huge difference imo. You have have all the overlays in a game 4K and look crisp af. Plus you'll want your desktop experience to be higher than 1080p especially with a screen that big.

It's difficult to find a gaming laptop which doesn't use IPS or IPS-equivalent display nowadays. An in depth review looking at response time, brightness and colour accuracy is needed to judge the quality of the display.
1080p is fine for a 15 inch especially when gaming imo but a 1440p is a nice to have. At this price point, I'd want a 1440p

      • 1080p display on that laptop has fewer pixels than the iPhone. You should be able to easily discern individual pixels with just 55 pixels per square cm.

        • You hold a phone much closer to your eyes. Just from my experience 1080p on 15.6” is fine when gaming. A 1440p display is appreciable but I have no issues playing at 1080p.

ROG strix is the nicer of the two.
TUF is the budget option in Asus' gaming laptops while ROG is the the more premium option.
It's got a 1440p 165Hz display vs the 1080p 144Hz and just the whole build will feel much higher quality.
The 6800M can beat the laptop 3080 in some games so I think will beat the 3070 in most case.

The ROG looks like a solid deal while the the TUF is an alright price. I'd 100% go ROG Strix

Why aren't they using Radeon GPU's anymore? looking at the specs between 6800M vs 3050 Radeons the way to go
