Worth It to Buy iPhone 11 ($647) before iPhone 14 Launch?

Is it worth it to buy iPhone 11 64GB at $647 from Officeworks now when newer iPhone models will be announced in September, next month?
(Apple website price is $849)

I have $700 budget to buy a phone which should handle daily usage and have a good battery life. Must last a day on normal usage (phone calls, WhatsApp, email and Maps).

Please suggest other options. Don't mind Android or iOS.

If you need it now, imo, go for it or you can wait see if it’ll go down further.

Agreed, iPhones hold a lot of their value so it can be resold when upgrading.

    • Not sure why there's a price difference between retailers like OW, jb hifi, Goodguys etc and Apple's store.
I'm afraid if I wait and the retailers increase the price to match Apple's.

Btw do you suggest any other sub $700 phone that better or equally good as the iPhone 11?

iPhone 11 is very good for that price and will likely last for years. I guess it comes down for the iOS vS android question, but I don’t think you will go wrong with the iPhone 11. I would also be cautious that waiting might mean the special ends and price goes up, or that they run out of stock.

        • Between android and iOS, I just gotta find the best method to transfer WhatsApp data (very important to me). I currently have Samsung Note 10, with dying battery so need to change. I used iPhones before, I'm comfortable with it. Its crazy that you can't directly transfer WhatsApp data when you migrate from Android to iOS.

          • @Starlord: Was setting up a iphone 13 recently for someone and transferring data from a Samsung S8 following this apple support document and it was giving an option to transfer whatsapp data.

            https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201196

Also i believe if you have backed whatsapp data up to google beforehand then it should give you an option to restore later.

On a side "note", my Samsung Note 10 plus battery is still very good after 3 years.

            • @techno2000: In Android, WhatsApp data is backed up to Google Drive, whereas in iOS it is backed up to iCloud. So, you can't restore.

When you transferred data from Android to iPhone, did it just install the WhatsApp for you or it actually transferred WhatsApp data including chats, images, recordings, etc?

    have a good battery life
Well the iPhone 11 is definitely not what you're after then.

Battery drain comparison between a bunch of iPhones, The iPhone 11 4h 20m vs the current iPhone 13 is 7h 45m is quite a difference.

Edit: forgot to add a recommendation.
I haven't kept up on phones too much lately but from a quick search under $700
S21 FE is $699 at JB

Personally i would scrape together another $50 and get the Nothing phone for $749 delivered.

    • Thanks for recommending. Appreciate it.
I'll check out the Nothing Phone.
Do you think S21 FE is better than iPhone 11?
I had S20 FE before. It was good.

      • Do you think S21 FE is better than iPhone 11?

Personally i do but only cause i value a 120hz display and battery life over Apple branding and if that battery drain video is accurate i think the Samsung has better battery life (Nothing phone has even better battery life).

I have an iPhone 11, 12 Mini and 13 and still rate the 11 highly.

I saw a battery test on YouTube that said 13 was much longer but that’s not been my experience.

Maybe the test phone had a degraded battery after a couple of years of heavy use, but I don’t notice much difference if any with mine.

    • Interesting!
I'd assume that Apple does optimise the iOS to suit the last few versions/models.

Do you easily get a full day's battery life with iPhone 11? Would you rate yourself as an Average Screen time User?

I can’t give you a good example of current all day use as I have 2 main phones (iPhone 13 & Galaxy 21 Ultra) and I just use my 11 at home to save their batteries.

When the iPhone 11 was my only single phone battery life was excellent though, especially coming from an iPhone 6 and always got me through a full day with fairly heavy use.

iPhone 11 used is probably going to have pretty bad battery life by now. I know after a year battery sucks, I always buy a new phone every year.

Battery life being bad after just a years use is simply not true, unless you have followed very bad battery habits like draining it below 10% before recharging or using it while being charged etc.

I always recharge once it goes below 40 to 50%

My Samsung Note 10 plus battery is still very good after 3 years.

      • I have an iPhone 8 that I bought in early 2018 and always kept it charged between 40% and 80%. Only recently has it been giving me issues.

well for starters you are comparing my iPhone to your Samsung note 10 with a bigger battery.

i am not saying the battery is completely dead after a year, it just last as long. from my personal experience, my battery would last the whole day, but after a year it only last 1/2 or a 1/3 of the day. that is why my battery sucks after a year. there is no way your phone lasted as long as it did day 1 vs 3 years later. every time you charge your phone you can't reach the same maximum capacity each time you charge it, no battery will.

for me i don't want to carry around a battery pack, which i end up doing on the backend of ownership. i sell off my iPhone and get what i can (which is still pretty high) and i buy a new one. for people that can't afford to buy a new one every year, you learn to accept what you can get for what you can afford. its good that i sell off my phone anyways, it is always helping someone get a phone for less then retail, so it's a win win for everyone.

  • Iphone 12 would be the minimum to buy new
Once it gets to 3 generations I feel the performance difference is fairly steep

Can pickup iphone 13s secondhand for around $700

Pixel 6a is a great alternative

If your budget is $700 max, then go for it. iPhone 11 is a good phone - (I am using it for 2 years now) only issue is that it’s not 5G compatible. Other than that, it’s a good phone to use

  • I would get the iphone SE 3 ($713) if I were you. It has better internal specs then the 11. The screen is smaller and has a touch button but it would last you a few year longer.

  • Bought the iPhone 11 128GB for $725 at TGG. They price matched OW.
    Really happy with it.
The price has gone back up to around $929 (jb hi-fi) today. I’m assuming price will fall back again when iPhone 14 is launched (likely on the 8th sept). Not sure if price will fall lower then $725 for the 128GB though.
