    Reasonable price?? And from Kogan??

  • +2

If you have access on TGG commercial, it is priced at $449 I think.

    • These has been out of stock/unavailable at TGGC for a while now.

      • just fyi you can go into a good guys store, show them the GGC page and they'll honour the GGC price. as long as you can prove the account is yours.

        • The product page for Sony WH-1000XM5 on TGGC has been removed, so won't be possible.

          • @RichardL: ah rip

          • @RichardL: it is possible to email them and request for a quote. seems like cost increased though. the best they could do for me was $415

        • Oh, that's good. I will try to that. If not we can always buy it online then pick it up from the nearest store.

  • Kogan are grey Imports correct ?

    • These Sony WH-1000XM5 are Direct Import (as per Kogan Description)

Not all products on Kogan are grey imports though.

am i the only one that doesn't like this 'streamlined' look?

    • +1

      yes

    • They don't fold which is a huge bummer for me - but not a deal-breaker.

I'm still rocking the 1st Gen, so I am not ready to upgrade yet

      • +1

My Mk IIs are still hanging in there, and I tend to use my WFs in normal every day use anyway, it's nice not having massive cans all the time. I'm not planning on upgrading anytime soon, until something finally gives up the ghost.

    • No

    • i am torn as my OG sony head wh series snapped at the band..so non folding is good in a way, but so bulky now…

  • Anyone moved to these from Bose QC35II? Thoughts?

i went qc35 > xm4 and hated the interface, the touchy/swipy bullshit was just a complete pain to use (and would often trigger by accident if i brushed my headphone against my shoulder or something) - also the on/off status is not immediately apparent, so to make sure you have turned them off you have to put them on, press the power button and wait for the voice to tell you whether it's on or off…. qc35 has a tactile switch so it's just super easy.

i ended up selling the xm4s to a family member and going for the qc45s, and very happy with the return of the tactile buttons for things.

i'll admit the audio quality and comfort of the xm4 was quite good and i think they handled noise cancelling with windy or loud conditions a little better.

i realise that's not the direct question you asked, but the xm5s seem to have the same interface and figured it's worth mentioning as it's not something on a lot of people's considerations when buying these types of things

      • I put gaffa tape on the outer right earpiece on my XM3s because my shoulder kept bumping the controls. Given the interface I'd've like to be able to disable it digitally. At least the gaff makes them look pov for security.

because my shoulder kept bumping the controls

How? I tried getting my shoulder into a position where it could swipe the earpieces and had to really crick my neck to do it!

I ordered them for $389 from Good Guys Commercial after requesting a quote. There was another thread on here where someone got them for $386. I haven't received them yet.

      • I requested a quote via email, however, were you required to have a company/business that you were purchasing on behalf of in order to receive the quote?

        • +1

You need to be a member of The Good Guys Commercial, whether it is through a union or another company. You put the organisation that gave you membership to TGGC as the company/business you are purchasing for.

          • @ripsnorta: Alright, thank you. It does also request a web order number? Would it be okay for me to write NA?

  • $499 is not reasonably priced to me.

  • +1

Not a great deal. They have been and will be cheaper on sale locally.

  • +1

So glad I got the XM4's. These look like a step backwards design and usability wise. No thanks XM5's

    • +3

I am pretty sure another comment mentioned this in a previous deal. But contrary to the naming, the XM4's and XM5's seem to be for different markets.
Seems like the XM5's are more a "lifestyle" ANC headphone (released to compete with the AirPods Max etc), while the XM3/4 models were more of aimed at being necessary accessory for commuters (mostly airplane travellers due to the "atmospheric pressure optimizing" feature on XM3/4).

One feature of the XM5's I learned recently, is that they "auto calibrate the ANC to the environment" every time you switch them on. This can be done in the App manually on the XM4's, but the XM5 do it all the time so it's like they expect the user to be in all kinds of environments such as walking on the street, on the bus, in a cafe, on the plane etc.
You can also tell by the swanky design that the XM5's are the more "stylish" option, similar in a way to Airpods Max.

  • +1

I'll stick with my XM3's thanks. Unless you really want an upgrade, XM3s are still a solid gold standard pair of ANC headphones

  • Be aware my son has bought imported Sony earbuds before from Kogan and had to flash them straight away because everything was in Chinese.

I personally don't buy imported products and don't get me wrong after an hour or two of dicking with them he got them to work and he's happy but just be aware.
