Should I get Dell G15 5525, Ryzen 6800H, 1TB SSD, 16GB DDR5, RTX3070? ($2231)

I was able to stack a couple of corporate discounts with Dell bringing a price of the Dell G15 5525 with the above mentioned specs to $2231. On paper this looks like a good deal but there aren't a lot of reviews with the 5525 as of yet. On the other hand the other brands don't have similar specs at this price.

Are there other recommendations with similar specs that are in the same price range?
Or should I bite the bullet and lock this in now?

I have the Alienware M17 with almost the same spec (except for 3070ti). The Alienware line is essentially a reskinned version of the G series anyways. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, but be mindful that powerful Dell gaming laptops seem to suffer coil whine. It's this buzzing sound that becomes quite noticeable when gaming. I exchanged mine and it still has it.

Ever since the launch of the Alienware X-series the quality of the Alienware M-series has gone down. As you said, the M-Series is basically a Dell G-series with Alienware branding now. I guess Dell figured that they can sell more units by compromising the quality of Alienwares rather than keeping Alienware as an exclusively premium line-up.

      • The Alienware models certainly look underwhelming on paper. What's more odd is the corporate discounts I have are reduced for Alienware. So I am guessing for Alienware you are paying only for the brand.

        • The X14, X15 and X17 are the premium models but are much more expensive than the m15 and m17

  • Stack your corporate discounts with salary sacrifice

    • That's precisely why I am getting a laptop. Plus I do a lot of remote work so need the portability of a laptop.

      • Do you game?

Yup. I am replacing my 6 yr old Clevo laptop that is about to give up. I am preparing for upcoming AAA games like OW2, COD, Diablo 4.

The Asus ROG G15 has a better screen and is a more premium build than the Dell G15.
Arguably better GPU (beats RTX3080 laptop in some titles, but not as good Raytracing and no DLSS) but older CPU which also means DDR4 instead of DDR5. Also you'd be giving Gerry money.

Might also want to consider the Dell G15 with i7-12700H and RTX 3070 Ti for $2200, with Dell 20% off eBay coupon

    • Thanks. The one in ebay only has a 512GB drive wheras the one I'm looking has 1TB. This is a huge advantage since I think there's only one SSD slot in the latest G15 models.

I am considering the ROG G15 as well and I am hopeful to hear more suggestions other than this G15 and what are pros of other brands over this one.

  • The display is gimped at either 250 or 300 nits, not sure if that will affect you gaming on the laptop.

    • I will be plugging this on a monitor so the display is irrelevant to me.

I did end up buying this but I'm now regretting and contemplating of returning this and getting the Legion 5 Prod that's on sale on eBay.

      • Did you do return it? Whats the usual return policy out of interest? I'm thinking of getting the L5P too but wondering if I can return it if its too heavy for me to lug it around for work.

Haven't yet I just got the G15 today and haven't opened yet. The box does feel light, or maybe I'm comparing it against my clevo which weighs like a ton.

I called up their rep and returns will incur a 15% restocking fee. I'm researching around reddit how other people got to have the fee waived.
