Things to do in Tasmania

My girlfriend and I have planned for a trip down to Tasmania.
We'll be staying in Hobart for 3 nights at the end of June.
We're going there on Tuesday arriving at around noon and leaving on Friday evening.
We have looked up some things to do/places to go to from travel brochures but I thought it might be a good idea to ask OzBargainers here.
We're still students and obviously on a bit of a budget so we were hoping fellow OzBargainers could help us out in recommending some places to go to/things to do on a budget or things that are really worth the money.

Any must-visit places or any must-try foods?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

  • Food:

Solo - Italian restaurant (Sandy Bay)= Ribs here used to be really good
Cargo - Pizza (Salamanca) = pizzas here are good (especially the Hoi Sin Duck)
Burger got Soul - Burgers, obviously (Sandy bay)= Burgers here are good.
Flippers - Fish and Chips (Opposite Mures, nearby Salamanca)

    Things to do:

MONA - Museum of Old and New Arts
Zoodoo (Zoo-ish) or you could try Bonorong Wildlife.
    Mount Wellington

Since you're on a budget and dont really have alot of time.

    • What's Cargo like compared to La Porchetta?

Mt Wellington is probably the highlight, especially if you're into running or cycling (and have a bike).

      • especially if you're into running or cycling (and have a bike).

and some serious muscles!!! - its a very long uphill climb…………………………………………………………………………….

      • I've never been to La Porchetta… lol lol… But Cargo's pretty great with some of their gourmet pizzas

    • Thanks so much for the comment!
      Very well organised and detailed
I'll definitely try to squeeze all those in

  • Port Arthur is a great historical location (skip the Tassie Devils viewing place somewhere on the road in or out)
Ross is a great little historic town north of Hobart.
Mt Wellington is a must - the views are fantastic, although rug up, its windy and will be bloody COLD.

You can also see the Cascade brewery, thats a simple local bus ride and the Domain with its gardens

    • Thanks for the comment.
We heard some good things about Ross as well.
We'll definitely try there especially since we wanted to go to the market but that's only run on Saturdays
and I heard Ross would be the kinda scene for people who like markets

      Cascade brewery sounds good too!
      Thanks

It will be extremely cold. We went Jan 2000 and it was freezing in Port Arthur. Bring warm and wet weather gear.

  • Any where in Tasmania good for fresh seafood, e.g. oysters, abalone, lobsters…. etc?

  • Cadbury tour

  • CRADLE MOUNTAIN!!
