Worth Buying Factory-Second OLED TV?

Have been on the lookout to upgrade my TV to an OLED, and found a LG C1 55" at what I thought was very reasonable ($1599). However, the condition was stated as factory-seconds, which they say is mainly just cosmetic blemishes (not on the screen).

Does anyone have any experience buying factory-second products, mainly TVs? And secondly would that LG C1 get your stamp of approval at that price?

    Dont do it!
Had a horrible experience couple of months back and we raised it with consumer complaints and were luckily able to get a refund.

You are better of buying an older & smaller model from Good guys/ JB using cards/coupons than go this route.

TV repairs are generally so costly that it makes them an uneconomical exercise!

    • That definitely gives me some more food for thought. Might wait it out till Black Friday then and hope for some good sales at the major retailers, fingers crossed!

  • Depends what factory seconds mean. It could just mean the box is damaged.

    • Apparently, their definition is:
"Manufacturer returned products that may be scratch and dent, ex display, ex demo, or plain carton or reconditioned products. These products are fully restored to Manufacturer's standards, quality assured and backed by FactoryPlus Warranty."

      Any particular red flags there?

  • ($1599)You can get brannew one.

    • Would be glad to hear where I could get an LG C1 55" or equivalent brand new at that price. As it's last years model it seems to be out of stock at a lot of places.

  • Definitely message if you can , and ask what their version of factory second's means .
    Might be pleasantly surprised.

    • Searched their website and their definition of factory seconds is:
"Manufacturer returned products that may be scratch and dent, ex display, ex demo, or plain carton or reconditioned products. These products are fully restored to Manufacturer's standards, quality assured and backed by FactoryPlus Warranty."

      Any particular red flags there?

  • for the slight saving I don't think it is worth the risk on a complicated and sensitive item. would recommend going with a major retailer when a special is on offer and enjoying full support should any issue arise.

    • hmm yep definitely starting to think about just waiting it out for Black Friday and trying to look for a deal then

  • Wait til Black Friday and get new.
You are about 6 weeks too late for the final runout of last years models, but the runout prices weren't significantly less than the Black Friday prices were from last year. I would expect it to be no different this November.

    • Think that's what I'm leaning towards now, thanks for the advice

  • ($1599) mean you can get brand-new one with difference brands.

    • Yep, I know I could get a different TV brand new at that price albeit it wouldn't have the same features that I'd be looking (OLED screen, VRR/120Hz refresh rate, good response times, HDMI 2.1, etc)
