Replacement for TPG w/ Landline

I have a place with Belong and although people said it was shit I havent had a single outage literally in years.

I have a 2nd place w/ TPG… now TPG isnt my choice but it has landline inc. because this place needs a phone.

BUT… TPG Is trash.. its always under line maintenance… it seriously seems like a weekly thing.

So what can I replace it with that still has landline?

I dont care about speed 25 or 50 would be fine.

But it seems to me if I change to internode or vodafone its really just shitty Vocus tpg underneath anyway and its just rebadging the same donkey Daewoo car so to speak.

I wonder if this location is just NFG… Its Beecroft btw.

This area was trash under adsl too… always flooded pits etc.

  • It's 2022, why do you need a landline?

    • there are crusty boomers there, say no more.

  • TPG 5G (if ya can get 5G)

  • +2

Define "landline". The vast majority of it under the NBN is now voip-based in some form or another. (Even the rarely used UNI-V ports on FTTP installs are mostly just SIP)

It's unlikely to be them doing the maint. NBNCo will just send out the notice and TPG forwards it on to you. Unless you actually have a physical PSTN line with them still, which I doubt TPG would have directly owned anyway.

Basically everyone will have a optional bundled voip service, or you can just get a connection with whomever and then have a voip service with a generic provider like Crazytel/MNF/etc.

I'd probably consider dropping or moving away from the "landline" if possible, but if it really bothers you, maybe go with a provider like Telstra that have a 4G fallback in their supplied modems. This may be a decent option if you are plagued with downtime, as you claim.

Optus too have a 4g backup, but most people will tell you to avoid them. (I am telling you to avoid them.)

I'm not too sure about Voda currently, but they too have backup.

There's also the option of a pure mobile broadband service delivered over LTE or 5G. TPG and Telstra have aggressive pricing for these currently. (1TB data for $85 on Telstra, up to 600mbit down. Unlimited on TPG for $65 for up to 100mbit down)

  • I had over-heard a JBHifi salesperson (yes, there actually was someone in a store helping a customer) talking about this phone
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/opel-mobile-4g-home-phone

Big buttons, 4G sim card (so could use one of those 365 day deals) and a backup battery

Maybe something like that could solve the problem?

I have heard there are versions with a wifi hotspot option also.
