Looking out for 2GB RAM for ACER Aspire One from COTD

Can someone help me find a compatible 2GB RAM stick for Acer Aspire ONE (http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/Ultra-Portable_Acer_Aspire_O…)

From the comments, I saw MSY was selling G.Skill ones for cheap but looks like they dont stock it anymore.
I did some search and shipping seems to kill the deal.

Would really appreciate some good pointers.

On the same note would - G.Skill FA-8500CL7S-2GBSQ be compatible ? It is for MAC though but does it make a difference ?

  • The easiest way so see if a model is compatible is to go on the kingston us website, and click "memory finder"

The key info on the COTD page is this line:
Memory: 1 GB of DDR3 system memory

DDR3 is the current standard memory being used in all recent computers, so that means that MSY has that in stock. RAM is standardized nowadays, so DDR3 memory is likely to work even if it's "for MAC", etc.

Select your location and click on any of these DDR3s to verify that they are in stock.

Checking for North Melbourne, it looks like G.Skill and Patriot are currently available.

The easiest thing to do would be to take your netbook to MSY to get the RAM. Open the upgrade panel before you get to the front of the line, so that way they can look inside at the 1GB stick that you have. The people at MSY will be able to tell you which stick to get. You know that it takes 2GB maximum so just get a 2GB DDR3. The speed will be faster than your system can use, so that will be fine. You just need to make sure it's 2GB DDR3.

You can also buy online (e.g. through ebay or a website) but I like to go to MSY because they will have a good price and you can also test your netbook before you leave the parking lot. There is a MSY only 15 minutes from my house so it seems convenient for me. You can return the memory within a week if your computer starts crashing because that would indicate that the RAM is faulty. DDR3 RAM is quite well produced, so I'd be very surprised if you had any problems.

There is an overview of RAM (http://compreviews.about.com/od/memory/f/FasterRAM.htm)
Also there is another overview here, but the prices are too high (http://www.aussiepcfix.com/canberrapcparts/ram-memory-ddr2-d…)

Make sure you get the SODIMM type of RAM, as they are for laptops.
If you were to upgrade a desktop, you'l be after the DIMM type of ram.
