Petkit Pura X - Which Cat Litter Do You Use?

Hi owners of Petkit Pura X, which litter do you find best for this machine?

I'm currently using Tidy Cats Instant Action Clumping Litter. It works fine but there are still small pieces stuck on the mesh. I'm hoping to find a litter that doesn't have this issue.

Just some background information, I'm not a big fan of having a cat in the house as I don't like the idea of keeping a litter box inside and the smell of cat litter. However life has a different idea and I now have a cat. Thankfully technology offers a solution and I got a Petkit Pura X. So far it works quite well, our house doesn't smell like a cat litter box. I just want to minimise even further the amount of cleaning (i.e. cleaning the mesh) if possible.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

We bought a Max and have been running tofu litter - mostly this one (https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07WF776FT/ref=ppx_yo_d…)

It works ok. I think you need to play with the auto cleaning delay to ensure the litter has enough time to absorb the moisture.

I've ordered some of the Petkit 5-in-1 that should be delivered this week, so we'll see how that performs as well.

We found the deodoriser to be quite "pungent" so we have turned that off.

    • Thanks so much for the advice. I tried leaving more time for the litter to absorb the moisture and that really helps!

How did you go with the Petkit 5-in-1?

      • Happy to help :)

The 5-in-1 only arrived last Friday, so we'll get through the remaining tofu in the robot then run it. I'll let you know how it goes.

        • Any news if the 5-in-1 is much better than what you were using? Is the Max large enough for a medium-large cat?

@coffeeboss: I would not recommend the 5-in-1. It doesn't seem to clump fast enough and prefer the tofu litter linked above.

Our boy cat is 5kg and fits without any issues.

            • @srsparky: Do you encounter any issues of leaking of the unit?

              • @coffeeboss: What do you mean by leaking? Urine? - no. The bottom fabric / base mat thing works quite well in that regard.

                • @srsparky: Hi @srsparky and @coffeeboss,

I'm thinking of investing in either Petkit Pura X or the Petkit Pura Max, just wanted to check on how your experience has been so far with the devices?

How often do you need to 'deep clean' the device? (E.g. take apart barrel and hose it down)
Can you use other kinds of bags or must you buy the Petkit bags only?
                  Is it worth the investment?
Some reviews on Youtube also mentioned urine leaking and just wondering if you encountered that as well?

I see a lot of different opinions on which is better between the X and Max

I have a 5 year old fussy kitty (~4.5kg) currently using Kmart tofu litter. I'm hoping to continue using the Kmart tofu litter in the Petkit, if possible

Any feedback will be much appreciated!

                  TIA

                    @AssamLaksa: Hi :)

We're still using the Max. We went through a period of our boy not using it, which coincided with some anxiety he was experiencing. He's also a bit sensitive (allergies), and we had trialled a few different litters as well.

We're currently using the Catsan from Petbarn. Works well in regards to odours, but doesn't clump very well. It needs a bit more time to absorb before doing the cleaning cycle. There's also the finer grained bentonite clay litters you can use, but we noticed A LOT of tracking of the fine dust around the house. The Catsan is still bentonite, but it is larger grained, and minimal powder.

We clean when necessary, ususually using the anti-bacterial wipes rather than completely washing with water & soap. We purchased an additional fabric tray so we can swap them out and wash & dry them better.

We use the Petkit bags. They're reasonably priced and fit. Change once a week with two cats.

Not sure about the urine leaking - haven't had that issue.

We don't use the deodoriser - it is too strong a smell (for us and the cats), and may have contributed to our boy not wanting to use it for a period.

Worth the investment..? I think so. We have a second, manual litter tray in the same room helping transition between litters, but will probably remove that soon.

                    • @srsparky: @srsparky,

Thanks for the detailed reply! Any reason you changed from Tofu litter to bentonite in the Max? Does it not work as well?
Not a fan of bentonite as they tend to catch to her fur (long haired kitty) more than the Tofu pellets do :(

Even without the deodoriser, does it still contain the smell better than a regular enclosed litter box?

I am worried that I drop $700 on a unit and find that it's even more work than a regular litter box. Heaps of reviews online mentioning how 'difficult' it is to clean/take apart the mechanism but also heaps of reviews saying that it's life changing :/

Thanks again for the detailed review :)

@AssamLaksa: Our boy was toileting outside on pavers, on any patch of sand that he could find. So to redirect that behaviour, we switched to the bentonite (being more like sand). Which did the trick for us. The tofu did work four our girl. We have Devon Rexes, so "caught in fur" is not an issue for them :)

Definate smell reduction. We have a 5 minute cleaning delay, but that can be adjusted depending on how quickly the litter absorbs the "wet". Once the cycle is done, you don't get a smell. There is a motorised lid that closes over the top of the bin that works really well.

The Max is super easy to take apart and clean.
