[Resolved] OzBargain Looks Broken in Dark-Mode in Firefox (Outdated Facebook Container v2.3.3 Add-on)

Some of the text is black on the deals page.

And comments as well.

The text is there and you can read it if you highlight it.

Maybe something got broken when it was reverted back from the R U OK? theme?

I'm using Firefox 104.0.2 (64-bit). It seems OK in Chrome.

Edit: I suspect it's me. It looks OK when I open it in an incognito window in both light and dark mode. I've disabled almost all of my add-ons and themes, but it still looks weird.

Edit again: It's definitely caused by the Facebook Container v2.3.3 add-on. Updating to v2.3.4 solves the problem.

Works fine for me in 104.0.2. What other add ons are you using?

I think I've figured it out. It's the Facebook Container addon. Even though it says it's not blocking anything, when I disable it, everything goes back to normal.

I have version 2.3.3, which looks like it was updated yesterday. That would explain why it suddenly broke overnight. Which version are you using?

          • @vatican-embassy: Ah, yeah. It's 2.3.2. Might just disabled auto-updates for now

@FireRunner: Looks like they've already fixed it and released a new version (2.3.4). I removed and added it back again to get the newer version. Leaving this here in case anyone else has the same problem.

Can use "Check for updates" to update to the newer version.

              • @vatican-embassy: Had the same issue, had checked for updates last night when I first noticed it but no go, and it didn't auto-update to 2.3.4 so I had to manually update - all good now.

@vatican-embassy: I was on 2.3.3 and was seeing the same thing. Just updated to 2.3.4 and it's back to normal.

      • I'm running Facebook Container and have no issues.

Looks like it's not just OzBargain, as Github also looks terrible. What does it say that I check OzBargain before Github?

Seems to be, OzB has the brains trust, post in OzB first when "What do I do?" thought arise.

  • 100% is related to the addon Facebook Container version 2.3.3 - https://github.com/mozilla/contain-facebook/issues/867

Update to 2.3.4 will resolve the issue

  • Umm any chromium alternative to this kinda facebook container ??

Never even heard of it till now

    • Facebook Container is developed by Mozilla themselves.
I think there are alternative "container" extensions on Chromium though not directly designed for Facebook

      • Is it like same thing as chrome user profile ? to me it sounds like it

        • I haven't use Chrome for a while. Not sure

        • Not really, although you could probably achieve similar by having a separate chrome user profile that only logs into FB and related sites, and a separate one for everything else.
FB Container separates facebook and related (instagram etc) sites interacting with other sites, and vice versa - so when you go to a news/retailer/whatever site that has facebook tracking on it, it can no longer get your details from facebook and facebook can no longer see what news/products etc you have looked at. If you've ever been to a site that you haven't previously signed up to and it displays a message "Welcome {Yourname}" chances are it got that from your facebook cookie, and in return facebook get to see what you browse on that site to target ads to you.
