Cheap Tickets to Royal Melbourne Show?

Hi everyone

Albo has just announced a holiday for 22 September which, combined with our Footy day on Friday will give Victorians a 4 day weekend. Coincidentally the Royal Melbourne Show begins on 22 September.

In all honesty this must surely be the most anti-Ozbargainer event we can visit in light of the admission, ride and show bag costs.

Nevertheless one has to have some fun sometimes so with this in mind can readers suggest ways of getting discounted admission, saving on rides and showbags etc?

I do recall that on some days the showbags were discounted (last day possibly). Please bring me up to date with the Ozbargainer's guide to saving money at the Show.

cheers Peter

Take your own snacks and food. It's pretty crappy anyway imo, so save money on food and spend on drinks/show bags/rides etc instead.

Doesn't taking your own snacks and food kinda defeat the point of going? Why not make your own show bags too from the discount chocolate section, or watch a few Disneyland ride along videos on YouTube as well.

      • Nah, not for me. Each to their own. I prefer to spend money on other things at the show that I value more. I just don't love most of the food stall foods so it's a waste for me.

Am i the only person who thinks the Royal Melbourne Show is one of the most over-priced, low-value - event that occurs in the City of Melbourne annually

You usually have to pay to park your car or take Public transport

you pay to get into the event

you pay for all rides, food, show bags etc which is usually over priced and the food is poor quality

the show bags are mostly filled with crap you could buy individually less then the cost of the show bag

The 'entertainment' consists of random events you wouldnt watch on tv and have no interest in and a few animals for kids.

am i missing something or is this the biggest con in Victoria

LMAO i see what you did there!

lots of free things to see and do and plenty of sample food…

it is not 'free' though entry for an adult is $45 if im not mistaken? i think it is 'free' for kids but they generally need an Adult/s with them

    • This is the same for any show, not just the Melbourne one. Simply giving carnies money so they can get their next fix.

        Yes and No

Some carnival/shows/events have 'free entry' but charge excessively for rides, food etc if you just want to soak in the atmosphere and have a listen to live music you can ie the recent fire festival at Docklands

others charge entry but most of the activities are free

very rarely do you see both a gouge to walk in and a gouge to do anything…Entry should not be more then a gold coin

Its not really free if you have to pay to get in but I take your point.

It would be nice if Cashrewards or Shopback were able to stitch up a deal with perhaps the RACV to get us a big discount on ticket prices plus cashback.

  • Just repeating my earlier question. Was there a day when showbags were discounted?
