  • Anyone tried Market Lane - Marimbus Espresso?
was always impressed with their coffee every time I visited their Prahran shop but review on the website looks underwhelming for this one.

    • +6

I can probably offer a little bit of insight here. Traditionally Market Lane roast all the coffee quite light which results in bright and acidic flavours. This is most likely what you had at their shop. Marimbus isn't like this - it's got little to no acidity. Which is what you'd expect from a classic Brazilian coffee roasted for espresso. It's mellow and easy drinking and goes best with milk. Where it runs into criticism is from drinkers who find it a little too mellow ie. Boring. It's not offensive, but it also lacks the punch that a lot of people like. Hope that helps?

      • Thanks for taking time to explain. great insight!
Would Marimbus Espresso be more "boring" compared Axil Seasonal Blend?
might go with one of the two this time.

        • No worries! Yep, I'd say it's more simple/boring than the Axil Seasonal Blend :)

          • @directcoffee: Thanks. Ordered Axil just now.
side note: waiting for ONA maple to go on special. I understand its $5 cheaper than ONA website but works out be to more expensive after shipping. (ONA ships free for 1kg). Any chance to work something out in the future?

            • @superbass: We can work something out! Just send us a message when you need to order :)

    • I've tried it, was ok, nothing special IMHO. Bit weak.

  • What's a good decaf that you'd recomment OP?

    • I was drinking the Proud Mary Decaf this morning - very tasty!

Thanks. I'll order some now. Trying to cut down on caffeine but I can't give up drinking coffee so hopefully this hits the spot :)

        • Fingers crossed! :)

Guys i can recommend Pillar, i think its great. For reference my personal favs are Humbler,Seven seeds and Five sense.
I don't rate Airjo or on Cue or Rustys or even Axil.

    • haha darn it. just ordered Axil.

    • I've been to the Axil store in Chadstone a few times and the coffee has always tasted terrible. I don't get the appeal of Axil.

      • +1

Thats it… I am changing my order. Thanks!

        • I'm not a huge coffee snob so I'm not sure how to describe how Axil tastes but I guess it could be described as "acidic" or bitter, possibly? I would just describe it as a weird tasting coffee, not pleasant at all for my tastebuds.

In Sydney I'm a fan of Will & Co coffee. Campos is ok and what I would describe as a pretty standard tasting coffee I don't mind drinking, but it's a bit overrated as a brand.

        • Market Lane is ok too

    • TY for rec just copped 2 bags of the Pillar Guatemala El Boqueron!

  • Recommended dark/strong roast espresso blend?

    • +1

Our darkest blends are Code Black E.W. and AXIL Heavyweight :)

  • I’m after a 1kg bag of filter roast single origin. Got anything on offer?

    • Sure do! What kind of filter do you normally enjoy?

      • Something bright and fruity. I have found Ethiopian or Kenyan beans to suit my preference

        • I'm so sorry I missed your reply! I can suggest from the options that we'll be dispatching next Tuesday if that's still helpful?
