any bike / scooter lock is just a delaying tactic, if they have a portable angle grinder, which doesn't seem to be uncommon for bike thieves these days, they are going to get through the lock.

if the area you live in has such high crime, your best bet is to take the scooter inside when you're not using it.

Fold it up and chuck it in the trolley.

In Perth the thieves carry a wrench and unbolt the bike racks so make sure whatever you lock it to is secure.

Would you really trust a lock after having two scooters stolen in the same week? Have you considered bringing the scooter with you wherever you're going?

  • Dont get the Granite, either get a sheilded 34CS, Abus Rock 83/80 or the 93RK/110 Monoblock.. These are probably the best padlocks you can buy and are super big and heavy. You cant drill them or pick them, dont even think about using bolt cutter on them, and even cutting them with an angle grinder is going to take some time. My pick is the Monoblocks, as the shackle is hidden once the chain is installed.

For chain, you will want a sheathed security chain. Something about 10mm or thicker and hardened chain.

And even after all this, they can still cut through the chain in about 30 seconds to 1 min with a hot saw.

And are we talking kick scooter, electric scooter, or we talking Vespa sized scooter?

    • It’s an electric scooter, thank you so much for the recommendation

  • I guess you are buying time if the thieves are determined, as it will take a couple of silent minutes lockpickinglawyer to pick the lock. Perhaps other options are having pink wrap applied, removing a wheel, spark plug, seat, or getting an alarm system.

If they cut through the chain, then the lock is just dead weight. I'd do the same - I couldn't care less if you used a Bowley lock, my grinder will cooperate just fine with that cheap gal chain that was $2 per m.

LockPickingLawyer has done heaps of reviews on Youtube - the Kryptonite Evolution was good enough for him to use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpVOTEOMRuE
