iPhone 14 Pro Upgrade + Apple Watch S8 Which One?

Hi All,
I own an Apple iPhone 11 Pro 256GB and Apple Watch S5 stainless steel Milanese loop.

I’m in the need of an upgrade now. My iPhone 11 Pro is running out of memory only has 15 GB left with some basic cleaning up. My iPhone is worth $450 with apple.

Need some suggestions if I should trade in and get the iPhone Pro 256GB before the older iPhone value depreciates more?

Or

Upgrade to iPhone S8 45mm. I got the smaller watch 40mm which has been with me for 3 years worth $150 for apple. I tried the 45mm which looks really nice.

I can’t afford to upgrade all now. What do you suggest I do here?

I’d say phone will give you most benefit

You already have always on display for your Watch. Makes sense to upgrade the phone to one that has an always on display too.

  • I would get the eyefone

  • Thank you guys. Should I trade in my iPhone 11 Pro 256GB with apple for $450? Or sell it in eBay not sure if I can get more there.

Also the 512GB Pro is out of stock. 6 weeks lead time. Are they going to honour the $450 trade in value?

Bruh, eBay is scammers paradise. Sell on Facebook marketplace or gumtree. CASH IN HAND ONLY
Also, you can get more selling privately with cash too

      • Same same mate, gumtree and Marketplace as well.

Just go with apple not worth the headache

    • Sell to a family member for $450.

Are they going to honour the $450 trade in value?

      Yes

  • Lock in a price for 14 days with https://mobilemonster.com.au/

During the 14 days list it on FB marketplace for $150-$200 more than whatever the above offers you. If you make a sale then great, if not then go with Mobile Monster for no headaches.

iPhone 11 to 14 are very similar. It’s marketing gimmick mentioning a bit faster processor, more camera megapixel, etc when it’s not a thing consumer need. People will tell you iPhone 11/pro/pro max is slow but they’ve got no idea what they are talking besides thinking like maths problem 14 vs 11.

Phone memory nowadays are fill up mostly by photos videos, then music etc.
Suggestion, do one off back up old photos to free cloud.
    Then delete it from phone.
Go into the setting, clear cache, etc.
    Up to you.

  • i have a iphone 12 pro max and apple watch 4 stainless steel
    I'm upgrading both

    • How much do you want for both of them?

    • No idea why the Android babies are out in force downvotin' ya - I upvoted purely cos of the crazy downvoters

  • Thank you all. I’m more keen towards the phone now than the watch. Although the watch looks very appealing. If I had watch series 4 it’s no brainer to upgrade.
I just went online to trade in and upgrade my phone. The 256GB is going to be delivered by 28th October but I have to return my current phone by 2-3 weeks. This means I’ll have no phone for few weeks and have to worry about transfer of my data somewhere. I have iCloud subscription but that’s only 200GB.

https://mobilemonster.com.au/ Giving me $20 less than apple. Are they legit?

What are my options guys? It’s going to be super hard without iPhone for weeks as I use the phone for Teams meeting office outlook etc.

    • what did apple say when you explained your situation?

      • Apple told me that they have a Gold colour 1 TB pick up today otherwise I can just order online and wait like the rest of the guys.

I didn’t get to ask them can I send my old phone for trade in after I receive my new phone. Do you guys know if I can do this or it has to be in 2-3 weeks time frame?

Mate trade-in doesnt work like that.

First up buy the new phone, depends on how soon you receive you need to move your data and then erase the phone, and remove the activation password.

Next you take handset to Auspost before that you need to upload your ID to brightstar’s website that you are the owner. A bar code will be generated, just let the Auspost person scan it, they will provide all the packaging and way you go. Apple will credit the money to your original form of Payment.

Tadaaaa… and its true not worth the hassle selling online for $200 extra or watever. Apple offered my iPhone 11 Pro max 256gb ($510) but my watch 6 44mm GPS ($175) :( that I’m sad about.

          • @sajidmib: Thanks mate. I confirmed with apple it’s okay to send after I receive the phone.

I’m so confused whether to get the phone or S8 watch. The only reason I’m leaning on the watch is cause of the $450 trade in value now which will depreciate with time. I don’t need two iPhones. But Apple Watch bigger screen brighter screen looked so much better than my existing one.

The new iPhone look wise I didn’t find anything exciting in the store. Dynamic island was meh always on was good as it dims depending on the light so that at night it will be less bright. It has mag charge which iPhone 11 Pro doesn’t have and of course better camera.

    • Isn’t it cheaper to get a 2tb external HD and backup whatever you are keeping in your 200gb iCloud and 256gb iPhone? This way you can get a 256gb iPhone instead?

      • I mostly have pictures and videos which I would like to keep on my iPhone. I have a habit of looking through the pictures or videos from 2017 etc randomly. If it’s on a HDD I’ll probably not do this. Just a personal preference. Besides that 256GB iphone 14 Pro is still not available same lead time as the one I’m after 512GB.

  • What are my options guys? Can I send apple my phone after I receive the new one?

Apple trade is you pay full price for the phone, you then send the old phone in using the prepaid parcel they send you. They check it and if everything is ok apple sends you a refund for that amount.

      • Yep got it but can I send the old phone until I get the new one?

        • -1

You got 14 days for them to receive it.

        • No

  • isnt it out of stock

  • What do you suggest I do here?

    Sell a kidney. YOLO.

    • I only have one :/

      • pretty sure I saw somewhere the latest iPhone came with a inbuilt dialysis machine.

If you are having a cashflow issue then delete more stuff off your phone and spend $0. Move it to a cloud backup if you want to keep it. The iPhone 11 Pro is still a great phone

Absolutely unnecessary to upgrade 11 Pro to 14 Pro unless you want the better cameras, or you want a phone that will last a few more years. You mention you're lacking storage space. But how will a new phone with the same storage help you? Just dump all your photos onto your computer or a hard drive to free up space.

Watch 5 40mm to Watch 8 45mm upgrade is more reasonable in my opinion. That's a massive increase in screen size and screen brightness, which improves usability. But I'd give you more than $150 for it if you want to sell it.

    • Sorry just found out Apple would just pay me $135 for S5 40mm. The new one stainless steel 45mm would be $1259.

Go with the phone upgrade or watch. So much to worry about.

  • Hi All,

I called Apple they confirmed that once I receive the new IPhone then I can transfer data from the old phone to the new and only after that I should send them the old phone. Trade in for old phone is locked in for the date I am purchasing.

When I wrote the S8 45mm it felt so good. However for the trade in they will only give me $150 max for stainless steel S5 40mm.

Now let’s say with the trade in deal if I choose not to send the iPhone or Apple Watch am I going to be in trouble? Apple Watch S8 40mm I have lots of family members keen for a watch.

For the Phone if I buy I’m upgrading this for more storage 512GB.

    • What are you gonna do when you reach 512 gb on your phone? Get a 1tb iPhone 16? And then 2tb iPhone 17?
It’s your money but it’s just my two cents, I think it’s a waste. Just get a bigger online storage like google photo or upgrade iCloud to more storage is still going to be cheaper.

  • I pulled the trigger and placed the order for iPhone 14 Pro 512GB. Hopefully this will stay with me for few years.

  • Quick question guys if I sell the Apple Watch Series 5 cellular 40mm - Stainless steel with Milanese loop can I get $200 or more in FB market? Apple is offering only $135 for trade in.

    • Quick question guys if I sell the Apple Watch Series 5 cellular 40mm - Stainless steel with Milanese loop can I get $200 or more in FB market?

Yes, you definitely will. Remember, CASH IN HAND ONLY
Apple still sells the Milanese loop alone for $150
You may be able to get $300 or more depending on condition

      • Great. Shall I use Facebook marketplace for this? I was warned about eBAY.

        • Yep, list on both gumtree and Facebook marketplace

  • I have the bigger screen Apple Watch 5. I’m not looking to trade in, yet, because I can still upgrade the iOS. However, I do like having the bigger screen. I, also, have an XS phone. We tend to hold off, now, until the iOS upgrades stop.

If it really is down to memory I would be looking at offloading stuff rather than going for the next phone.

We got $120 trade on on my man’s iPhone 7, recently, so you will still get a few bucks changeover in a couple of years time.

I, suggest, you have a good look at both and see if they sing to you. I think you are just looking for a justification, so go forth with my blessing.

  • I posted my watch S5 40mm for $300 let’s see if I can sell at that price. It is in excellent condition. If I can’t sell it at that price I’m keeping the watch until next year. My wrist is thin compared to most men out there but after wearing the 44mm in store I really liked the bigger screen and brighter watch. Apart from that the temperature sensor etc is of no use to me. ECG bit is still the same and it really helps me mentally to check my heart condition few times I had chest pains.

  • My suggestion is get the 1 TB 14 Pro as you will soon run out of 256/512 GB storage.
So you don't have to upgrade to 15 or 16 due to storage issues.
