Warranty under Law

Hey all so my artiss standing desk has failed after 14 months and the support team are being very unhelpful. How long should it be supported under warranty? I see vague answers from 12 to 24 months but wondering if i just need to move on. Wouldn't buy them again.

  • It says:

Beyond which you may look at the ACL.

ACL doesn't provide for specific time frames. I can't recall the exact wording but essentially products should last for a reasonable time frame for the item and it's cost. For a desk I would say that a reasonable time frame is definitely more than 14 months. Ikeas sit stand desk for example is around the same price as the Artiss one and has a 10 year warranty and I think most people would expect a desk to have at least 10 years of life.

Yes, listen to this advice , OP. Did you bring up your ACL rights at all? They will usually change tune once you mention that (seeing as it's at 14 months age, definitely)

its an artiss re-seller, if the product assembled correctly with all the provided pieces without having to modify / chase up extra parts that were left out I'd say its already surpassed expectations.

          🤣 Truth.

    Warranty is generally 1 year.

ACL guarantee is undefined as "reasonable" timeframe and you'll have to argue that point with them.

    Artiss is garbage quality products.

Mudflap* tier offerings. Far more money sunk into shipping, photography, marketing and public relations than into product bill of materials and/or after-sales service.

How long should it be supported under warranty?

Warranty is usually clearly defined my the manufacturer, distributor and/or (in some cases) the retailer. Have a look at the paperwork that came with the desk to see what was provided. I'm not familiar with their desks but a quick search found a few different models each with a 12 month warranty.

Guarantee (aka consumer guarantee) is enshrined in Australian Consumer Law. Depending on what's failed (eg seized motor vs delaminating work surface etc) and how often the desk has been used, I think failure of a desk after 14 months would not reasonably meet the ACL 'acceptable quality' test.

Who is being unhelpful? Who was the retailer? Are they simply not responding/taking their time or are they proposing a resolution (eg repair, replacement, credit, refund etc) that you're not keen on?

BTW, go to the New Aim Pty Ltd (the company behind Artiss) Google Maps listing. Some of the photos makes you wonder how ANY item arrives undamaged and in working condition. Their warehouse and distribution centre is an absolute shambles.

  • Any time a business tries to say that the warranty has expired, just ignore that and say that you are exercising your consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law. They have to be very careful with their next words after saying that because if they say that the ACL doesnt apply or has expired, that is a breach of the ACL.

  • is it the single or dual motor version ?
