  Is it worthwhile upgrading to the "string of the month" (Volkl V-Torque) option in your opinion? Is it chalk and cheese when comparing to the factory ones?

  The racquet comes strung with Wilson Sensation which is a soft multifilament string, very friendly on the arm. If you want more power and spin then the string of the month special is worth the extra $20.00. Also as stated this racquet does not come with a cover. It is the direct all major tennis racquet companies are moving. There is a option to purchase a generic Wilson cover at purchase if required.
