It doesn't actually say online, but my guess is that this is the M616T model, not the newer M681T. I don't know if there is an older model that this deal could be for. It also doesn't say 4K compatible but I'm pretty sure it would be.
No remote listed under "What's in the box", but there is one in the picture.

  • Does this allow broadcast of the FTA channels via the network so can watch on iPad/phone etc?

    • +1

No. Beyonwiz can do that, and I'm sure others as well.

      • Thanks, miss the days of Windows Media Centre

Try MythTV if you've got some tech ability / willing to enter the world of Linux.

        • +1

I was able to keep it going after W10 killed it a few years ago. I found workarounds on some websites. Every now and then it carks it with some Windows major update but I just find the website with the info again and the brainiacs there will have new workarounds. For some reason though it stopped recording some months ago but I can still watch the recordings I had already made. I haven't gotten around to updating WMC again as yet because I need to upgrade my SSD (which is coming today) and after I install that I'll do a clean install of Windows and then try to install WMC again.

Just looked and my last recordings that WMC did were in Feb this year. Here is a link from around that time to the website I gleaned help from. https://tinyurl.com/My-Digital-Life

    • Silicondust HDHomeRun is the shits for that. Bought a dual tuner DVB-T model years ago (HDHR3-DT) for AUD139 delivered from an Aus seller and use it as my MythTV tuner. Looks like you can now only buy from Silicondust online - and current AU models are "temporarily out of stock". See this bargain - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/656026. Prices are USD.

    • You can use "Fetch Mobi" mobile app on Android/IOS to watch premium channels and recordings, can't watch FTA channels from tuner with the app

    • No. You can stream FTA channels and recordings to a Fetch Mini in another room without needing an aerial though which can be handy.

Just tried to buy one - sold out :(

  • Does anyone know how to clear the cashe on these boxes?

In particular the Brit box app…

    Tia

  • Had mine for years - ever since the Tivo swap/coupon deal. It hasn't missed a beat.

I pay the $6 per month to get the ESPN sport channels.

Netflix & Stan are supported on the device.

I use a logitech harmony remote to control it.

Great for recording anything free-to-air - NRL, AFL, the news etc.

I use it with Atlona HDMI extender so that I don't have to have the device anywhere near the TV. Combined with the radio-based logitech harmony remote, results in just TV on the wall, but all devices hidden out of view.

    what is fetchbox for? ..

    • +1

Recording TV shows. That's what we use it for anyway.

      • -3

wew thats ol'skool, why yall do that? does it record the adbreaks too

  • Just wondering why I would need one of these if I already owned a smart tv?

    • Recording TV shows. That's what we use it for anyway.

    • Not sure about anyone else but my Panasonic VAIO that I bought in 2013 - which is "old" really has a very clunky interface. I just ended up buying an extra long HDMI cable and use that to connect my desktop to the telly - works like a charm. I have a VPN so for watching US Netflix, Amazon Prime etc I use the TV - PC link. For watching Aussie Netflix I use my Chromecast.

Also the TV has a USB connection - for watching/listening to media and also recording. After much googling I found I needed to only use a USB/Ext HDD no bigger than 2GB and it must be FAT32 only. Too much faffing. So I went back to my Topfield and WMC for recording and PC/Chromecast for watching. I don't know if a newer Smart TV would have a better interface for apps etc but my current setup works for me - no need to change anything - until I do.

      • Jeez whats your monthly subscription rate for all those!!

  • It's not that bad as I only use the cheapest plan - My TV isn't 4K etc. I have basic Netflix, and Amazon Prime is a bargain at $59 per year. I used to have Foxtel but gave it up when Binge came along - so much cheaper. ATM I'm only paying $10 pm with it due to some perk with Telstra. I usually save more by getting Binge gift cards on Shopback - especially good when SB has a gift card bonus offer. I have Stan with 2 logins allowed so I share one log in with my friend and she has Disney+ so she gives me one of her logins. So if I divide the Amazon cost by 12 and add up what I do pay for - Netflix, Stan & Binge it comes to just under $40 per month - which is a complete bargain compared to Foxtel and I only had the basic plan + Drama - I think I was paying $75ish???

    Hello
Thank you for your recent purchase of a Refurbished Fetch Mighty, we do hope you're enjoying all the great content and features it offers.

We're writing to let you know that, due to a mix up in the distribution centre, your Mighty was delivered with a standard remote instead of the newer version with Voice Control. We are very sorry this happened, and have arranged for a shiny new voice remote to be sent to you at the same address as your Mighty. It should arrive sometime within the next few days.

You can read more about Fetch Voice Control and how to use it here.

If you have any questions or feedback please get in touch with us via email at [email protected]

    Cheers,
    The Fetch Team

  • this deal is over but I just want a simple FTA box as I have kodi and would like some integration with google home assistant with FTA(ie turn on[CEC] or switch channels). so would any fetch be fine for this?

    • To include Kodi on the Fetch box?

  • Is it worth it if i have a smart tv and coaxial cable plugged and can watch FTA channels already ?

    • +1

Depends, have you ever wanted to pause live your tv channel to go do something, or rewind it because you missed something? Have you ever wanted to watch FTA on your time, not when its actually live? Have you ever wanted to fast forward some damn ads ? Then this box is for YOU!

It sounds like I work for them but I really don't. Just been using it for years :) I never watch anything live any more, I always wait for the recording and watch it in my own time. Not being able to fast forward ads on streaming services annoys me…

      • +1

Same. Value it mostly for pause rewind and catch-up of free to air programming.
Pause for a loo break or to take a call then play and skip ads untill you catch up to live broadcast. Half hear something you wanted to hear again on the news and you can rewind and properly catch it. I use it for sports mostly. Start watching half hour late then skip ads and half time stuff and get up to live by the last five minutes.

Nice interface, most apps better supported than on many Smart tv (but not as well as Chromecast or Firestick), plays stuff of a USB drive.

    In stock again

    • You sir are a legend. Got one

  • Back in stock now - I just ordered one

Do you think we will get the Bluetooth remotes?

    • I do hope so. Haven't received an email yet.

      • Neither have I.. Come on Fetch

  • That was quick, ordered yesterday and received today. M616T model, remote has voice button so likely Bluetooth version? Haven’t set up yet.

    • Nice. Thats a current Gen4 model I believe.

    • +1

M616T is Gen3 model with added new Voice Control Remote.

GadgetGuy review of Gen4 to Gen3 model

Previous orders received the old remote, so they are receiving that remote as well.

      • +1

Agh, so it is and I should know that as that's the same as mine……I just quickly Googled it before replying above and a site came up with Gen4. I should have known better as it isn't easy to determine exact models numbers and what comes with what.

        • Yes Mighty (Gen 4) is M681T
          these are (Gen 3) M616T
You wouldn't be the first to mistake those similar model numbers.

Good comparison in linked review above.

So sorry for my earlier comments & incorrect statements about power consumption of the Mighty!
          You were right.

Now realise am coming down very sick with the flu! Not a happy chappy! Not thinking clearly.

Had warned in a post long ago that mains Power Meters (that I used) are inaccurate at very low consumption (like this box)!
Should have taken my own advice.

Will grab a suitable plug, socket & multimeter & read current on 12V going into box. Expect I'll see Wattage increase to your 16W😉

          Again sorry.
Have requested my comments be removed.

          Off to bed for me!
What with missing out on my cheap alcohol from BWS pricing error Deal, should have stayed in bed today!

          • @INFIDEL: Haha to your cheap alcohol from BWS pricing error Deal. Know the feeling.

No problems about the Power thingy…….and thanks for noting this as I was head scratching thinking what am I missing or if I had a dodgy box. All good so and mine is like the rest and just uses too much power due to lack of standyby feature.

            • @Borg: 2 Power Meters gave the same low reading & old one showed 0W…
I trusted the results were accurate…
How could they not be correct?🤔

Read your valid comments about consumption by HDD etc.
Went home, played a recording to ensure HDD was on - no change in consumption… Very strange!
Box was warm - too warm for my reported very low power consumption!!
Realised my (trust in accuracy of) meter was the problem!

I was using the instruments outside the range at which they are accurate. A basic error!
Should have known better!! (Studied in Electronic Engineering, have a degree & experience in Research Design, and designed & built electronics for yonks…)

I just wasn't thinking & went down the wrong rabbit hole.
Only when pain set in, realised I was getting sick & not thinking clearly.
Where's my FREE 3L of whisky when I need it😃

              Not a good day.
Sorry I caused a problem for you.

New to Fetch (1 week), so still learning…

Yes, the Mighty model & firmware# are same as yours.
The HDD setting I referred to only relates to how long rewinding current program will be possible (comes set to 3hr / no limit - not recommended).

So HDD is powered up all the time!
(I just didn't hear it or feel any vibration, as with all other PVRs I've used over last 15 years. And the erroneous power reading convinced me it was not in use.)

Found your comment about upgrading HDD interesting. Commonly discussed in PVR forums but Fetch is a bit different.
(Never had a HDD fail in PVRs, just a PSU fail after many years of daily use - waiting for me to repair. $99 Fetch - much quicker solution.)

Used to adding HDD externally to easily transfer recordings (added 2 x 3TB HDD to 1TB PVR), but not possible with Fetch.
Transferring recordings seems more difficult - via network. Will leave that to explore another time…

              Taking a sickie…
Back to streaming using free Boost SIMs on phone hotspot.

              @$99 - Fetch was a great Deal.

              • +1

@INFIDEL: Yeah, I check the power consumption on things I introduce to the home and pop a little sticker on the bottom (more a hobby thing). Some items like the Fetch Mighty blow my mind at the absurd power requirements (due to no standby option). In turn avoid them where possible to keep my overall power consumption to a respectable level. I have a lot of electronics hence I like to know what is using what and when. I have a couple of different power consumption meters and cross check them against each other to ensure accuracy.

Data Migration: I tested cloning one Fetch hdd to another. From memory, I think it worked and recordings showed up on the new drive. Will have to rerun the test. I also tested copying recordings to local PC but found that they didn't play properly (I used VLC player to view). I didn't dig too deep into this as didn't see a need for doing this, file sizes were large and regardless, most recorded things are avail to view on the channels via their catch up these days (or could be D/L from elsewhere at a more respectible size)!

                • @Borg: Knowing device consumption (your "hobby") can be handy.
I'm just curious, & once taught in this field. Mains Power Meters were a basic tool. Now used to keep electricity cost under control. Mainly need to test once & record, as you do👍

Was important information when lived off-grid, with basic 12V solar charged batteries. There was a need to limit consumption - especially when there was little sunshine. A device like Fetch would not have been appropriate.

Simply couldn't believe Fetch is constant 16W!!
Luckily, with 3 tuners - it's replacing 2 old twin tuner PVRS!

Already have HDDs full of movies recorded from FTA (mainly SBS).
Realised I will never keep up with the viewing - as more are broadcast every day. And now much more available to stream.

As my Panasonic 1TB PVR (bought for $10 in last days of Dick Smith) is failing - bought the $99 Fetch. Happy I did. But it's a different concept.

So plan to explore its use for a month (free streaming services), but limit my recording to a manageable level. Rather than needing to transfer recordings to free up space.

There's so much more to life!

                  Thanks for your advice.

                  • +1

@INFIDEL: The 1TB Panasonic (which I also have and use as my Primary device due to Fetch silly power consumption has one major advantage over fetch. It does a brilliant job of accurately placing markers at the beginning and at the end of each Ad break. This way when viewing later, one can hit skip "once" during the ad break on rather than having to FF or skip by xx amount of time. Am amazed at how well it detects ads and wish other PVR's were as accurate and incorporated this feature by default.

                    • @Borg: You must have an updated model! Mine lacks that. Great feature!

Bought in 2014, but was display stock long before that. First of their PVRs.
Only has useful skip forward 1min & back 10s.

Handy playing recordings @1.4 x speed with sound.

Every PVR manufacturer seemed to take a different design approach.

Now Tuners sometimes don't detect signal, occasionally can't find HDD & its noisy (HDD clicking!)… Was time to replace.
Got more than $10 value in last 8 years😉

  • Seems to be gone again :(

  • I personally really like these devices. Was going to pick up an additional unit, but all sold out now… Thanks anyway OP!

  • Thanks for the heads up OP. I have been wanting to try Fetch for a long time. I managed to grab one yesterday morning to replace the Vodafone Tv that is ailing for my wife after they restocked the mighty & received the shipping info last night. Ended up grabbing a second one so we can multiroom so my lads can watch the NBA & NFL in the family room on ESPN.

For those that missed out or are after an extra one, try sending an email asking if and when they will be restocked. I did this on tuesday night, received a reply yesterday morning advising they had restocked with a limited number on ebay and they magically reappeared for purchase on their website for $99 at the same time. They may restock them tomorrow after the public holiday as it looks like they are in Sydney as that is where they are located as that is where my box is being sent from. Hopefully this helps & they restock again.

  • Mine's arrived but I'm not at home, I ordered the day after the deal, still wondering if I got the bluetooth remote bundled.

    Suspense is killing me :D

Just wondering, is it best to get a mini if you want to watch in Multi-room - I currently use a HDMI sender from our Humax to do this.. how do the recordings appear on the second box are they streamed?

    • Yes. The mini gets to see the recording held on the Mighty. Just ensure that you register the Mini within your same online Fetch account. You can do this via the "Add another Device" area.

      • Cool thanks, wonder how they work, wifi-stream the show from the Mighty maybe..

  • Got mine today, looks brand new but didn't get the Bluetooth remote 😭

Although on the side of the box it says Bluetooth remote in the box!

EDIT: Oh I might be an idiot, I think it is the Bluetooth remote 😂 there are a few different looking remotes if you google it.

Now I have to convince the missus that the Fetch is better than her beloved Humax!

    • Thanks!

    • Tanks!

  • Current url and offer says - "Offer only available to existing Fetch Retail customers with a Gen 2 Fetch box." Is that being enforced? If so, should be added to deal title.

    • It is not enforced last I checked i.e. I tested adding to cart and there were no questions relating to current owner/account. I stopped at final payment step as I don't need one.

      • Thanks. Tempted to buy one for the hell of it but should probably rather fix my MythTV box which I can watch on the Android TV app. Are there no additional costs other than the $1 and whatever paid packages or streaming services you choose to pay for? Do they do their own FTA TV guide and what is that like?

    • It is not enforced as I purchased one last week and received delivery a few days ago.

I also reported the deal to the mods after ordering as it was labelled OUT OF STOCK incorrectly since the link to the special offer changed but had not been updated on here.

I've paid $99 so far and my understanding is on activation another $1 is payable before choosing any channel packs.

      • Cool. Thanks. Good to know. Is their TV guide decent? MythTV has a web interface with is very convenient for making your own custom searches and setting recordings. Does Fetch have something similar eg web interface or app which makes it easier to set and manage recordings than using the TV frontend?

        • Yes. Perhaps just Google Fetch TV guide, Fetch App etc as there is plenty of reviews online showing how it looks, feels and works. Better than trying to describe here if that makes sense.

          • @Borg: Good advice. Thanks.
