Which ones good for a fist timer?

    • +7

Barangaroo Reserve is my personal favourite and annual tradition.

      • So is the $50ish just to enter or you get stuff too?

        • +7

That's just entry unfortunately and the price has been hiked up considerably this year.

But… it's not overly crowded, very easy to get to and from CBD & no need to camp overnight for a vantage point. You can rock up an hour before the fireworks and get an easy good spot no problem.

You can bring your own picnic or patron several food trucks available. Read the T&Cs on what's allowed and not as there's some restrictions.

There's usually a small DJ booth that most people don't care about, plenty toilet facilities and the Cutaway building is opened up as solid shelter in case of inclement weather or if families need to get indoors for a bit.

It's definitely worth the premium and people pay 4x the amount on Gumtree for tickets closer to the time.

I would recommend arriving well before an hour. Last year was great as they had social distancing requirements, but I reckon it'll be packed this year.

I was there the first year they opened the area and it was chockers, you were almost forced to stand on the pavement because there was no more green space.

Better to get there during the day and make a day out of it at the park. Bring a book or whatever to kill time, definitely better experience than having to squeeze next to people.

Found this website had a short comment on each https://sydneyexpert.com/new-years-eve-in-sydney/

The NSW residents might know as I'm flying in from interstate

    • Fist timer? Is JV gonna let this one slide?

  • +28

    Where's the bargain exactly…

  • +2

    some vintage point is free

    • +1

Would that be the 2003 vintage?

    • I'm from Brisbane and just assumed it was like riverfire - rock up and see them.

I was stuck seeing a tiny sliver of it between several buildings.

I get there's capacity limits but it's a shame that these events aren't free.

      • I used to study at Brisbane and I still remember the countdown at South Bank river. I agree with most people here that the event should be free and I found some of the vantage point charges as high as $500 for the entry fee only (nothing is included).

  • +12

It wasn't that long ago it was free to watch the fireworks from most of these places.

    What's the normal price now?

  • Cahill Expressway ballot has been ozbargained. keep getting 403 ERROR The request could not be satisfied.

  • Does anyone know if the free tickets for the Opera House vantage point is closed because they are sold out or it hasn't opened yet?

    • +1

      Hasn’t opened yet.

  • +2

    Sorry, where the bargain??

    • +2

If you are worried about covid you can stay at home, wear masks when you're out too make sure you and your family are protected, let those who want to move on with life and live.

  • +16

Is this just not an ad? Where's the bargain?

    • ts for us sydneysiders

  • +13

Tickets to The Calyx, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney $595 to watch the fireworks???? WTF??? Others places $525, $475 $375.. PLUS A BOOKING FEE!! What has Australia come to?

  • +3

    OzRRP

    • -1

      more like OzRIP off

  • +10

Seriously?? Pay money to watch fireworks organised by council /city ?
    That's full on Capitalism

  • Those who hasn’t been worth to try but once you’ve been you will not return. When I was living in city, still took me almost two hours to get back home. Now I don’t live in city anymore, likely factor in another two more hours on over crowded train and buses…no I don’t think so.

  • +8

Yeah… nah. NSW has gone idiotic. With rising cost of living, this has become a rich people only event.
I'll do the same as i have done for the last few years, go to sleep around 11. Screw this.

    • +2

NYE is overrated anyway. Your own birthday is where it's at.

  • +3

Dunno why people bother tbh…have a beer at home with friends or fam and a bbq and have it on the telly

  • +2

Wrong place to post. How is this a bargain?

    • you are not even in sydney

      • How is thst relevant to whether this is a bargain or not?

        • because we have to get in early to get the best value, isnt that obvious?

          • @screensaver: So… paying to get in early to get the beet seats = bargain?

            Hmm… interesting.

            • @jecec: there are free ticketed events too, but it doesnt concern you anyway

              • @screensaver: You are changing the goal post at every reply. Go play alone.

                • -6

@jecec: dont tell people what they can and cant post when its not even your city

  • +2

I normally passed out before 9pm anyway. Who cares!!

  • Darling harbour shows as Closed. Is it booked out or not opened yet?

  • +4

    Should be free!

  • +3

Should be free but ticketed so it's now overcrowded. Councils are struggling to get cash for services after a decade of liberal party cuts so I can't blame them really.

  • +3

Paying for the privilege to stand on public ground paid by tax payers to watch the fireworks paid by taxpayers….

  • +1

Get employment with the Sydney Opera House Trust and see them for free.

  • Potential Hack - Arrive a day or 2 before NYE & it should be free entry.

  • +1

Free tickets now available (as of 11am) for 6 remaining sites, will go quick

  • Any one got 4 x spare tickets to East Circular Quay or Opera House and willing to donate to my family?
    Thanks a lot
