Headphones under $50

Hiyas, looking for a pair of reasonable headphones for under $50. I prefer it if it was not open and not in-ear.

Right now I'm thinking of getting a pair of Sennheiser HD201 from ozgameshop ($28.49 all up) since the general consensus on the internet appear to be positive.

Suggestions?

  • I'm in the same boat and considering the same pair.
    These get great reviews

But unfortunately their shipping to Australia is super-expensive (UPS courier only, $30 for one pair)

If somebody wanted to do a group buy with pickup in Sydney or would post, I'd totally be in for a pair of them.

Otherwise, the 201's look adequate, but not incredible.

    • Yeah, I came across though while I was looking at reviews of headphones under $50. The shipping is a killer.

Right now I'm thinking of grabbing a pair of Superlux HD668B (I really like the detachable cable design), or the HD681. They seem to receive pretty good reviews too.

  • went to dicksmith today.. they had 30 percent off.. plus another 10 if you have everyday reward card.. can go and have a look it was alright :)

  • +1 for Sennheiser HD201s.

  • Slight segway - Anyone got any thoughts on the Aldi/Bauhn "noise cancelling" set for $39.99

    • Haven't used it - But in general cheap active noise cancelling gear is rubbish. You need good mics, a good DAC and low latency all the way along, and those things just aren't cheap yet. Cheaper sets tend to have unacceptably high processing latency, and so can't cancel much noise at all (especially outside music, people talking etc).
My experience is that no active noise cancelling is particularly effective except against low rumbly sound

  • If it's not sound quality you're after, or if your too deaf to notice a difference..

I used to go through headphones like crazy, about 1-3 a month. Eventually the big brand/more expensive ones just stopped being enough, so I decided to settle for fake ones of eBay. Bought in bulk, 10 earphones (apple fakes) for less then $2 each. I'm still using my first one for about 4 months now.

    My 5 cents.

    • Didn't you have warranty on them? O.o

    • I was looking for a pair of headphones for use at home since I had a pair of IEM for when I'm outside already.

But wow, you sure go through them quickly.

      • Yeah, I have the bad habit of twirling them around :(

  • I can't give you model number, sorry, because I wasn't in the market for them, so didn't really take much notice. Was at Officeworks last week and they had a Senheisser marked down from around $80 to $29 or thereabouts. Might be worth a visit if there's one nearby.

    • Nothing at my local OW. It was worth a try, thanks!

  • Hey guys - I've decided to go ahead and order the Monoprice 8323s. If anyone else would like a pair and would like to save a bundle on shipping, please let me know ASAP and I'll add them to my order. Price should be $35-$40 + shipping or you can pickup from Sydney CBD/Parramatta/North Shore.
Drop me an email - I'll create a post on the forums too
