65” TV Required - $2k Budget

Hey all,

So seems my Samsung 60” F8500 plasma is finally on its last legs lasting over 9 years so time to finally get something new.

Looking at the Hisense 65” U8HAU or the TCL C835 with both going for about $1995 right now. Sadly I live in a remote area so only really have access to Harvey Norman and Retravision.

Have seen the 65” U9HAU for an extra $200 but unsure if it’s worth it. Seems there’s no current review from the likes of RTINGS for either the U8 or U9 which makes things a bit harder as neither of those TV’s are in stock locally right now so can’t go and see them myself and can only really rely on the specs sheet.

Not really interested in OLED as can’t justify the price. Basically just something that has HMDI 2.1 for when I finally upgrade from my GTX 1070 and stop relying on Moonlight and will just have a 2015 Shield TV connected to it for all streaming.

So any other ideas for around $2000?

    so still using Moonlight?

    • For now yeah. Once I finally decide to upgrade my GPU I’ll try running a fibre optic HDMI cable through the roof to connect my PC directly to the TV. But that could be a while away with how things are going!

      • How will you control the pc from tv room?

        • Xbox One controller connected to my PC through the adaptor, and have a small keyboard with touchpad connected to my Shield TV. Launch Moonlight into the desktop and control it that way.

  • Sony - LG - Samsung.

    Choose 1

    • They do, but it’s over $400 delivery!

    • Cheers for the suggestions, but from what I can see none of them support Freesync at all? Plus that Sony is edge lit which seems ridiculous unless you go up to the X90K model where from reading the QC seems to be extremely lacking with Sony, plus dealing with anything to do warranty is a nightmare.

I’m definitely leaning more to the U9HAU from what I’ve been reading, but also thinking I might wait a bit longer and see what the prices do. The AU$ dropping like a stone is worrying me about pricing 😂 Does seem a lot of people seem to have an issue with Hisense and only suggest Sony, LG or Samsung. Sony have never interest me as think they’re overhyped and over priced, LG (outside of OLED’s) seems very poor for their price and Samsung have priced themselves out of their markets asking for ridiculous prices for features which should be on lower models.

Also, kudos for being a gamer and having a TV last you for more than nine years!!!

Haha have been a PC gamer since the Xbox 360 time so have a good gsync monitor that I mostly use but some games are just better on the couch with a controller so that’s where Moonlight works well!

      • Have a Sony now and would never go to any lesser brand other than Samsung or LG if the price is right.
