Dual 27" Monitor Arm

Hey all

Ive taken the leap and purchased 2x Dell U2723QE.

Where my setup is positioned you can see the side of the setup which has led to me wanting a clean monitor arm with cable management.

I currently have a Dell MSA20 which is great - i can purchase another when on sale or i can find one arm that can support both monitors such as the Ergotron LX dual direct arm. (Which may or may not work with some 27" setups)

Any other alternatives?

  • Plenty of alternatives. Ergotron is expensive where you can get the same end result for maybe a third of the cost.

See Amazon for example arms - just search 'dual monitor arms'. Amazon also sell their brand (Amazon Basics) clone of the ergotron. The parts are interchangeable between the two.

I'm on the fence about throwing out my dual arm and getting two singles. Annoys the crap out of me when I switch from sitting to standing desk and have to tweak the position.

      • same. every single day regretting it.
now waiting for cheap north bayou on 2x singles and will just get it done. or at least get one more single, i can use my dual to hold one monitor and one laptop (i bought vesa laptop holder)

  • NB caught my eye actually.

Hmm what dont you like about the dual?

    This caught my eye.. https://amzn.asia/d/9UMTfJj

    • you seems made up your mind for Ergotron… then go ahead. will not dissapoint by looking at that price.
but i dont think anyone here will buy it. well maybe we are not that rich :)

      • If it were black and 100% fit i would jump however alot of feedback going 2x singles has made me reconsider…

        • I've got 2 of these (Ergotron – LX) for 4x 27" monitors https://www.amazon.com.au/Ergotron-45-509-216-Dual-Stacking-…

Zero regrets on my part, though there's no way to hide a cable inside the vertical post, so may not solve your problem. A pair of the shorter ones with the would work for just 2x side by side. You can also probably fit them side by side with just a single post, but you get more flexibility with them separate. I did not pay near as much as they are now (Snagged them on an eBay 20% off from a cheaper regular price) but they're sturdy AF and should last a lifetime. More basic mounts 'do the job' if not trying to stack vertically as well.

I never really liked the mounts that attach 2 monitors perfectly side by side (like the one you linked), it seems that they are less flexible in handling different monitor sizes and as you approach their limits you lose any chance at adjusting the angle between the monitors as you need to set the angle at whatever puts the monitors as far away from each other as possible. I guess as a plus they should always be level with each other, but you pay for that in tight tolerances.

If you like the MSA20 and it's working for you I would just get a second since you already have one. It's probably the best combination of clean cable management + flexible, plus it's going to be cheaper than changing to Ergotron, come in your preferred colour and hide the vertical cables better.

  • I have a Kogan one holding up two big monitors.

  • I have 2x North Bayou F100A singles, holding a 34" Samsung and a 27" Dell. Both are solid as a rock and haven't never drooped/moved unintentially on my electric sit/stand, plus they have the cables for the screen running inside the arms.

I've worked in offices with dual arms and they are very restrictive on the heights you can have your screens. With 2 separate arms you can move the bases around so they can sit properly side by side at the height that you want.

I'd consider looking at the pole based mount like the North Bayou H series (H80 or H100). They're a little easier to have on a desk against the wall.
