Changed Cars, Need to Buy a Wireless Phone Mount

Hey guys,

I had a old camry and had upgraded the decks with a Android and Apple car play system . I have now changed to a lexus (still old but new enough that the systems are all integrated into the display), I cant really change the deck i think because of what i mentioned, its like an all in one. So I figured only way to use my phone is to get a mount, But catch is the Pixel 3XL has no 3.5mm output, only a USB-C. So I need to use that to convert into 3.5mm to connect with the car system.

I figured ideally if i can get a wireless phone mount then it solves my problems of wanting to use my phone navigation / messaging etc while i am driving as well as the audio out from the phone to my car. Do people have recommendations on wireless phone mounts (I dont want one that connects to the air vents but rather to the windscreen or sits on top of the Dashboard. I have a ebay plau $49 voucher to use as well so i figured maybe i can use that to purchase the item.

This will charge your phone wirelessly and sticks to the window allowing you to use Android Auto directly from your phone. https://www.kmart.com.au/product/15w-wireless-car-window-mou…

I have two of the vent version and they both work great.

Lexus has had Bluetooth since 2003, otherwise I guess you'll still need a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter.

Alternatively, there's a good chance you can install a double din unit with a new fascia plate, something like these https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192411308658 / https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/293498992556 Any car audio installer should be familiar with the process.

  • My Lexus is a 2009 or something I think. I thought the Bluetooth was only for calls etc but not for music?

Hmm I didn't realise there were ways around it. I have a is250. I just thought since the system has climate , audio and everything else going through the video display that you can't change it.

    • You can use Bluetooth to steam music. My 2011 Corolla was able to.

      • Can I use it to stream say music from my youtube music app etc or is it only if i have downloaded music onto my phone and then use the car audio app to play that downloaded music?

        • Your car acts as a giant Bluetooth speaker. Whatever you play will be streamed through the car speakers.

I suggest reading the car audio manual rather than asking questions.
