Faulty David Jones Return Possible without Receipt?

I received a Orbitkey Nest as a gift with a gift receipt - I had no practical use for this so I reutrned it and bought a Philips MG7770 shaver from David Jones

The shaver was supposed to be waterproof and I washed and cared for it as per instructions. It workedwell enough and so I threw out the original box and receipt.

However, a few weeks on and the blades have already started to rust.

Would I be able to return this for a refund? I don't particularly want a exchange or replacement as I figure it will run into same issues with another one.

  • Did you use anything like this after washing it in water? https://www.shavershop.com.au/shaver-guard/shaver-guardplus-…

  • yeah, that's the exact spray I use

    • fwiw Philips specifically say on their website that the blades won't rust on the 7000 series shaver https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/MG7770_15/multigroom-series-7…

      • thank you - yes, that's what I thought and I needed one that worked in the shower hence why I got it

normally I don't throw away receipts for sometime but because this one worked well I didn't think much of it and threw it away

Do you still have the gift receipt for the Orbitkey Nest? They should be able to track the activities from the original transaction and what you ended up with.

After tracing the transactions, whether they let you refund or not is a different story. If they don't let you refund, you could try exchanging for something else that you do want. And if you don't want it, you at least now have a new receipt that you might be able to use to get a refund….

    • no I think they took that receipt from me (or I threw it away)
the only thing I have left is that the shaver was $5 less than the orbitkey so I do have a $5 gift card

yes, fair enough, I figure the best I can hope for is a gift card

  • Do you remember what store and date (time helps too) you did the exchange at? If so, Customer Services can reprint the receipt for you.

Source: ex-staff; digging up receipts was one of the things I did when I worked there (not in Customer Services)

    • Furthermore to this, assuming you can get a refund, it would be to a David Jones Gift Card.

    • thank you - yes definitely remember the store, date and rough time - so I will go and have a chat to them
also shaver was $5 less than the orbitkey so I do have a $5 gift card - if that would be helpful

yes, fair enough - at best I figured I can only get a gift card rather than a full refund - that would be reasonable

How did you pay for it? Check that statement. You need proof of purchase, not necessarily a receipt (although that's the easiest)

For future….I take a photo of every significant receipt and store that photo in a folder called….wait for it…. "receipts"

    • Aye, I no longer keep paper receipts. It's one of the things I use evernote for. Obviously, one can use whatever software they wish.

But yeah, having photos or scans of receipts and then saved in a searchable format (rather than randomly in a camera roll) has saved me heaps of time and avoided so many headaches for me.

It also allows me to track prices for things that I would price match for in the future, or even just find out how much I purchased an item for back in the day.

It does seem like a lot of work, especially when just starting out, but nowadays, I'm so used to it, that it's literally less than 2 minutes to sort out a bunch of receipts.

    • thank you - yes, lesson learnt, I should just take photos of receipts on my iphone - seems like such an obvious thing but lesson learn for future at least

  • Best you can hope for is a gift card, an exchange, or a replacement. And all of those I would expect you would need details (purchase time/date) for them to look up the exchange.

No refund as even for the orbitkey nest you didn't have a purchase receipt.

  • yep, fair enough, even though I don't shop at David Jones much (not a high roller heh) - a gift card would be better than nothing

    • Assuming you paid by CC, just search your statements for a DJ item…..or bank accounts for the same reference

      • You didn't read the OP or comments, did you? How is OP supposed to search their statements when they were given the Orbitkey Nest as a gift, which they exchanged for a shaver and a $5 gift card?

        • I did read the OP. I read it and the OP says they returned the Nest and (I quote) "bought a Philips MG7770 shaver from David Jones". Which says to me that they bought the shaver. Where's the talk about exchange?

Two can play the copy and paste game.

OP received a Orbitkey Nest that was purchased at David Jones (as indicated by the Gift Receipt). They exchanged it for a shaver and a $5 gift card.

        • thanks, sorry yes @kerfuffle is right - it was an exchange rather than return and bought separately
