$2 Sim Cards for Porting

Hey Ozb community,

I am using the benefits of CR and boost for the free sim cards.
I am currently on boost but have bought a 100% cashback sim card recently from boost which I want to activate.

As I am existing with boost, the only option left is to port out to a $2 sim and port back to boost.

So I got hold on one of the $2 sim cards (for free while returning from Airport, they had it in stack - it's Telsim (which is apparently Telstra)).

So now when I try to move from Boost to Telsim via the free sim card i just got, it asks me for plan selection ($30-$40) and without which I cannot proceed

So my question is - is it only with this Telsim that I am seeing this or it's with other operators as well. I don't wanna buy new sims which won't be of my use, so suggestions please for the $2 sim which would allow activation without any recharge.

Cheers

  • I used a woolies one for this purpose. I think there was a Pay As You Go plan. Didn't load anything into it. Only thing is when you want to port out of it, the authentication process requires you to respond with an sms (which you can't since balance is zero), but you can ring the Woolies call centre to get around this.

    • No, you can respond to it as VF has solved this issue, unless WM has applied other restrictions. You do not need to be in a credit status to respond it.

  • +1

I did it with a $2 Telstra sim to Boost and had no issues. Suggest trying that as they don't ask to load any balance etc.

    • Thanks mate, am actually waiting for someone to confirm some other brands also , as I have seen some on specials in Woolies for half the price (.99c)..else will try Telstra

  • So can I confirm that as I am with Boost at the moment that will expire soon, I can port out to Telstra with $2 sim without needing to top up & then in 1-2 days I can port back in to Boost without any issues?

    Will appreciate any feedback.

    • No need to do that, call boost ask them to transfer ur number to the new sim

      • Just did this today. Game changer.. Cheers for this.

  • Thanks for that.
I was under the impression that it's a lot of hassle at Boost's end and wanted to avoid the chat.
Just buying $2 sim without having to top it up then coming back to Boost 1-2 days later seemed a bit more less hassle for me.

Anyways, I'll just buy the new Boost sim and ask if they could transfer my number.

    Thanks!

    • I've interacted with boost over phone and chat in last couple of months and they've been very helpful
Their customer service is pretty good, try that out

  • Hi, similar situation

I am currently on a "JB Hi Fi Telstra Plan" and want to swicth to a "JB Hi Fi Telstra Plan" to take advanateg of the $300 gift offer at JB HiFi. Same offer available at The Good Guys, would it be possible to switch to a "The Good Guys Telstra Plan" or do I need to port out and in?

Next question, can you port out and in on the same day?

    Cheers!
